exceeded my bumps so new thread!

well i have this turbo, i bought it from a friend up north. he said the turbo was on the car around 10k and then sold to me. was gonna use it for my ka-t but i was stupid and dropped a socket on the fins and bent two and broke part of one off.... well i took the turbo to shop they said itd be fine to run, that'd it be noisy. took pics and sent to gpop shop and they told me the same but i didnt wana run it so i got a new turbo and now i honestly dont need this one so i figured id post this on here to see if anyone wants it.

looking to get around 200shipped but im open to offers and as far as trades i need stance clocking adapters for my new turbo so if you have some ill do that plus $70 and the shipping for the turbo or 740cc injectors depending on what ones how much ontop for it.

heres a picture of the turbo, again the turbo is 7 out of 10 condition.

how heavy are those sockets you dropped inside the turbine to bent a fins and chip some off? and they are so close to the wall. looks like turbo has a lateral play and made those damage. too bad im short on cash i would swoop it.

it was a 19mm, theres no play. i never ran the turbo but it spins freely with no rubbing of the fins. like i said two shops said it was good to run thatd it just be noisey. id run it but as you can see i have a new turbo so i dont need it.

i also have the intake pipe that will come with it too.

I worked for Turbonetics for 8 years, I'm not sure what shops told you that it'd be "ok" to run like that, but that's not true. When assembled at the factory, turbochargers are spooled to over 100,000 RPM on a VSR (Vibration Sorting Rig) and are balanced perfectly to within micrograms. With those broken blades on your turbo, the balance of the rotating assembly will be severely out of balance, causing the turbocharger to fail due to imbalance. It's like driving a car 150 mph on the freeway with unbalanced tires, the vibration of the turbo (they can spool to over 150,000 rpm) will cause the thrust bearing and ball bearings damage, as well as the piston ring seals. Trust me, ive seen it hundreds of times with my experience.

thus me buying a new turbo and thus why im selling it cheap. although i was told itd be okay i opted out and bought a new turbo instead of running it with bent fins. thanks for your insight though.

i suppose someone could try to send it to get fixed or rebalanced idk and i dont care what someone does with it as long someone buys it.

Sorry, wasn't trying to crap on your thread, just wanted to share my knowledge. You can't rebalance that CHRA (Center Housing Rotating Assembly) with the broken compressor wheel, you'd have to replace the compressor wheel with a new one and then have it VSR balanced. I'm not sure if you can still buy those compressor wheels though, as HKS used special compressor wheel trims that were not an off the shelf Garrett wheel.

Or you do like me buy it and machine for a bigger wheel :)
