I'm sure most of you know there are small curvy drift tracks in japan, if one were built do you think people would go practice drifting? Are there already some here?

of course they would go... shoot I'd go every weekend if I could do it somewhere legally... but once a month is cool too... I guess we're just lucky at the moment over here in CA... but it looks like the drift craze is spreading fast... i wouldn't be suprised if one was built in the near future.

there's a closed down go-kart track locally that someone needs to buy and make into a drift track... that would rock.

someone buy a parking lot and open it to peole to practice on and I'd be there...hmm thats an Idea. I'll have to find a parking lot for sale and rent it out at nights/weekends to drivers :) anyone wanna invest?

drifting is so much better on a track than in a parking lot though. If someone opened up a track, I would be there in a second.

I wish there was somewhere near me to even practice legally whether it be a lot a track or whatever. I worked at a go kart track for 2 years and I wanted to take my car on the track but its really narrow, so instead I would just drift the go karts lol.

I don't see it happening anytime soon. I doubt that there's enough demand to build a track like that and see any profit. And having to deal with all the legal aspects of building a track. It'd be cool if someone made one though.

someone must be rich enough to buy 20acres of land and just pave the fuck out of it. That's all we would need.
If you keep it private, and claim it's just for your personal use, maybe some friends. Then who cares.

I think we'll see something in the next 3 years or so.. Multi use tracks are popping up all the time. places that accomodate Auto-x, Road racing, Drag racing, all into one complex.. Adding a "Drift track would be easy, and you could use it for both Drift, and Auto-x.

yeah, that would be great
i remember reading some old magazines, but it seems like alot of japanese tracks are used for drift and grip and sometimes they go practice at the same time
too bad real estate prices have goon stupid high, we're not likely going to see any tracks remotely close to any civilization...

i might have the opportunity to open one around orlando in the near future and use it for drifting and auto-x....theres already a dragstrip so scratch that
you guys will think this is hilarious, but since i live in the south there are tons of rednecks w/ trucks looking for mudpits to mudbog or whatever they call it, id probably also have a giant mud pit on my property for them to play around in.......that'd be an interesting group of people gathered in one area

It would be a nice idea for safety, but I'm sure with the the government redtape the project would be killed before it even started. Put noise polution, local residents complaining, traffic and the tree hugging monkeys into consideration. It ain't going to happen.
I would go all the time... I dont know of a place to rod on my car yet... Soon as my turbo's in i'm guna need a place.

It can be done. Location is the problem. You are probably better off buying some land and paving it. Insurance is easy to get, with SCCA, and a few other orginizations you can find some. It would be a costly project though, wouldn't get your money back rigth off the bat. Drifters are poor, poor people don't have money to do all that.
As of now people are setting up events on thier own, its easy, but you have to be professional about it, and research.
Drifting isn't really as big as people think it is. For the most part there are a lot of e-drifters, but this year there seems to be more events and clinics so more seat time for people, which means more drifters, which means more demand for things like that. Maybe next year someone will attempt it, but probably won't finish for another year.

:stupid: :werd:
That is excatly what I would do if I could find the funding. Just go around to all the local tire shops and buy the "used" ones they leave around. Sell those cheap to the novices.
Have some nice sticky ones around for the more advanced and adventurous.

Don't tell me you live out by Valencia, in Bonneville..I think it's bonneville, but I know exactly what you're talking about. You should go downtown by 8sec and see the HUGE mudding truck they have parked outside. heh, didn't know that anyone would be intersted in drifting here. Too many are still into the 1/4 races, which is good. the last thing I wanna hear on the news, is a news reporter lady saying that "teens in the orlando area were doing something they called..Drifting. 4 teens died today because of this dangerous sport." Next thing you know, people would start drifitng here and getting into accidents, and drifting becomes bad. I'm so tired of the people who think they're badass just cause they have a turbo on their Eagle Talon.
anyways, happy to see that another Orlando person is here. btw, Matlock, are you in FLorida yet or no.

My driftland would have curbs, and walls, and guardrails...plenty of stuff too hit. So you are forced to be good. With nonskid and reflectors that are razor sharp as lane markers to drift without hitting. I learned with all of this. This place I know of it is regarded as the place you go when you are good and able to hang with the best. You don't go there to get good...you go there if you are good. You can't crash cuz you will have to walk home. To me this place is the greatest rush.
i know this sounds weird... but i had a vision of a drift track... the first kinda driftland kinda place in the US will be built in Las Vegas... thats how it happend in my dream.. you may laugh at me now, but ill laugh back when were chillin at the track :-p it was small... but it was freaking cool.. i know i know.. im crazy...

hmmm.... efixmer, obviously Ernie Fixmer right?
If it is, driving the same car at D1 this year? What do you think of Rhyse's GTO? Just curious.

I say have strict rules regarding entering the grounds, i.e. keep spectating bums off the track and to a minimum. No magazine coverage media or anything to try to make there own profit doing an article on this track.
Jus wait till GT4 is released... maybe more people will be interested in this.

insurance wouldn't be so bad as long as your safety standards for the cars are pretty high (helmets/safety inspections/vehicle tech inspections) and you only let one person out there at a time. have a separated spectator area that's not too close to the track, maybe elevated up above a concrete barrier. plus, a good waiver of liability always helps.;)

if he does, it'll be a miracle, as that car was totaled.
