well maacco will do it for like $250 but it sucks.

I too was looking for a cheap route to nice paint and have found that $1500 buys a good paint job with some body work. So, i'm saving up and hopefully by the summer i'll be able to show off a nice black fastback

if you can DIY your own bodywork and actually do a good job, any one-day paint shop or maaco should be able to do a good job of spraying your car for ~$1k, provided you do ALL the prepwork (like removing trim, etc) and provide the paint. Just tell them how many coats of paint and clear you want.

sticky240.... does the maaco $250 paint job include the car being primed first.. or do they just slap on black paint over my stock dark green paint?

I painted my car for 280 bucks, included sandpaper, masks, paper, tape, and all the painting materials. Thats 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of base, and 2 coats of clear. Check out my car on the members ride post, I think its on page 36 or 37.

johnnyblazian: I belive they just paint over your old paint, thats part of the crappyness.

I have heard of good paint jobs from maaco but like mrmephistopheles said, you must prep yourself

johnnyblazian- If you go to the Maacco that is on Graig and Lamb in North Las Vegas, they can paint your car for about $500. They will sand your car, fix any small dent you have, pirmer your car then paint. I have seen some of there work and it look very good for a $500 paint job.

if you go to maaco, you also get your weather stripping and exhaust painted for free. :D

i'd rather go to kragen, buy couple of cans and spray paint my car than go to maaco, outcome is the same.
you get what you pay for... unless you know people, have some type of hookup...

it will cost about $1,000. my friend paints cars and painted two of my cars. i paid him about $900 the first car so...basically about grand for a scuff and paint no body work.

no offense black180sx, but u could take a picture of a recently spray painted car and have it look nice (ok, thats an exageration, but you get my point). how long ago was the job done? how much did it cost? is there anything wrong with it now?

3k for a paint job? and its not candy. i own a paint shop here in texas and my price starts out @ 800. for a small hatchback up to 1200. for a med size 4 door.(no jambs)
we do remove all molding, lights, etc. as for the door jambs its 50 bucks a side .inside trunk lid 75. engine bay 700. including engine removal and everingthing else. we dont use cheap material. we use PPG (DBC) for the base color and PPG (CONCEPT) clear coat. visit PPG site and read about it. we also use HOUSE OF KOLOR. all our paint job is wet sand and buff and the result is no ugly orange peel any where just gloss. and it comes with a 5 year warranty. so if any of you want a quality job for a fair price and if you are in the grand prarie area. stop by or call AUTOTRENZ. and one more thing i just bought a 90' 240 coupe for 350. with a slight fender bender eazy fixer it will be ready for the DALLAS HOT IMPORT NIGHTS show.

sides on that black car dont look that smooth, but also given that the sides where shaved.. and what I like to call the "cottage cheese" effect on the body kit.

If you have another car to drive sometimes the body shop will cut you a break if you leave the car with them for a week or 2 and let them do it in between other jobs. Shops in the Tampa Bay area will charge between $1000-1500 depending on the amount of body work and color.

There was a couple runs in the clear, but thats because it was freezing cold in the shop, and the paint guy gave me clearcoat for bake booths, but those buff right out. It's an easy job for anyone to do over a weekend or whatever, as long as you have an ok sized air compressor, mediocre paint gun, and patience. Just be sure you get Every little ding out, or else it will show through when you spray your clear on. And remember, prep is the key, if your prep job sucks your paint job will show it.

I was quoted ~$3k for a full OEM quality repaint, door jambs, engine bay, etc. from two reputable shops in the Chicagoland area. This was for back when I had a '97 Prelude. But I would assume it would be the same for a 240.

i was quoted also for 3k full paint job for my 86 celica gt hatchback..
this area has less shops/tuner shops so there is less competition so prices are higher.

Are there any places in the bay area that would do a paint job for around 1500 without the engine bay painted? Seems like everywhere is around 3k only.
