So i was wiring up my stereo yesterday.

I used this diagram

1991-92 Nissan 240 SX Stereo Information
Constant 12V+ Red/Black
Switched 12V+ Blue
Ground Chassis
Illumination Red/Blue
Dimmer Red/Yellow
Antenna Left Rear
Front Speakers 4" x 6" Doors
Left Front (+) Blue/White
Left Front (-) Blue/Yellow
Right Front (+) Brown
Right Front (-) Brown/White
Rear Speakers 6 1/2" Rear Deck
Left Rear (+) Red
Left Rear (-) Green
Right Rear (+) Blue
Right Rear (-) Pink

this powered up the headunit fine, but i'm getting no sound, i only have front speakers, and i made sure the colors were wired correctly, by taking out the speaker and checking the wire color and made sure they matched up to the headunit. I noticed i have a violet wire left over, so i went online and checked another diagram.

LIGHT GREEN -> AMPLIFIER POWER -> This is an output from the unit. When turned on, the unit should apply +12V power to this signal. If you have the Nissan premium sound package, its amplifiers use this signal to control their on/off state. Connect this to the ANTENNA POWER output on the new unit.
RED -> REAR LEFT SPEAKER +
GREEN -> REAR LEFT SPEAKER – DO NOT CONNECT TO GROUND
VIOLET -> REAR RIGHT SPEAKER +
PINK -> REAR RIGHT SPEAKER – DO NOT CONNECT TO GROUND
BLUE -> +12V ACCESSORY This is the main power input to the unit. It is active only when the ignition is in the ACC or ON positions.
RED W/YELLOW STRIPE -> ILLUMINATION – NOT USED
RED W/BLUE STRIPE -> ILLUMINATION + NOT USED
BLACK W/RED STRIPE -> ANTENNA POWER This is an output from the unit. When turned on, the unit should apply +12V power to this signal. The power antenna uses this signal to control its up/down state. Connect to the ANTENNA POWER output on the new unit.
RED W/BLACK STRIPE -> +12V BATTERY This is the backup (memory and clock) power input to the unit. It is always active.
BROWN W/WHITE STRIPE -> FRONT RIGHT SPEAKER – (correction; was + in previous revision of this document) DO NOT CONNECT TO GROUND
BROWN -> FRONT RIGHT SPEAKER + (correction, was – in previous revision of this document)
BLUE W/YELLOW STRIP ->E FRONT LEFT SPEAKER – DO NOT CONNECT TO GROUND
BLUE W/WHITE STRIPE -> FRONT LEFT SPEAKER +
BLACK (DOES NOT EXIST IN CAR’S WIRING HARNESS) -> GROUND This is the ground connection for the unit. It should be connected to the car’s metal frame. The shifter boot retainer ring is an ideal place to attach to.

So i found that this one has one for the violet wire, so i tried this one, meaning i disconnected one of the blue wires that was connected to a speaker wire on the headunit and connected to the violet ( i have a total of 2 blue wires). now the head unit won't turn on? I thought for a headunit to turn on it only needed 3 wires, the ground, the 12v constant , 12v switched. but it seemed when i disconnected the 2nd blue wire it won't turn on. SO i disconnected the violet and reconnected the blue according to the first diagram which is a speaker wire and it turns on, but still no sound. Why would the 2nd blue wire be affecting if my headunit turns on or not? And what is the 2nd blue wire for? according to the first diagram it is a (Right Rear (+) Blue). but headunit won't turn on without it connected. Anybody help me out and let me know which diagram to use? i checked my rear speaker and indeed there is a violet wire. confused :(

I would deff get a hold of a multi meter and check your wires. Are you using a after market radio harness as well? It sounds like your "hard wiring" your aftermarket radio directly to the factory pigtail harness. Its alot easier if you used a aftermarket harness basically plug and play.

You only need 3 wire to power up the aftermarket radio.
Yellow wire on deck harness - Power = 12V constant
Red wire on deck harness - ACC/Igntion = 12V switched
Black wire on deck harness - Ground = Ground on chassis somewhere (nissans for some stupid reason don't run a ground on the factory radio harness)

All other wires are speaker wires, illumination (orange) and remote wire (blue). You can also use a 9v battery to pop the speakers/check speaker wires after you find out which wires are hot.

they dont need to run a ground cause the radio brackets act as a ground on any radio that uses them

there should be 3 blues
one to rear speaker one for radio power and one for cassette power
is the violet on the after market harness?

S13 have an active system that has an amp

Active system as in front speaker have a crossover built into them but not an amp, rear speakers are direct to deck

i wouldnt know never worked with an active system but acording to the wiring dieagram there is an am for both fronts and the rear speakers
If you want ill put up a picture of the wiring diagram to show you.

i heard s13 with the "premium sound package" have the amp thingy,

and the violet wire is coming from the car harness, i would use a aftermarket harness, if the person before me didn't cut the whole thing off -_-.

and i know only need the 3 wires to power up the headunit, what i don't get is why i need the extra 4th wire (the blue wire) in order for the headunit to power on, it won't power on if the 4th wire (blue wire) isn't connected.. and yeah gonna ask a friend for a multimeter to check the shizz @[email protected]

Fyi this wiring diagram works for a 97 s14. I change my speakers yesterday.
