a while ago I was watching a GT race on speedvision (god I love that station) and I noticed that the cars run on wheels that have one single large lug. I'm certainly not thinking about using this on my car, as i'm sure it's pretty expensive, but I would like to know something about it. Just curiosity I suppose. Anyway, does anyone know why this is used, and what the advantages/disadvantages of it are?
Other than the obvious advantage of getting the wheel off faster I have no clue.

ive held those in my hands at a pit stop competition in montreal a year ago. they are HEAVY as ####. but if theyre not tightened well the wheel can spin on its self

Yeah... actually that happened in the race. The wheel ended up rolling down the straight away, jumping over the rumble strip and landing perfectly on top of a stack of tires, lol.

they are called knockoffs. Its pretty much evident why they named them that. Yes they were designed for racing.
may the drift be with you, dpro
