NO PICTURE NO POST! I wanna scroll through here and see pics of cars

I figured i would create this thread for people to show off there headlights, tail lights, signal lights, anything that disperses light and makes your car unique or to show off modifications that you have done.
-Complete headlight swaps
-HIDs
-Retrofits
-Fog lights
-Tinting
-Aftermarket Tails
-JDM lights
-Interior lights
-Puddle lighs
-Etc...

If you have something cool, post up some specs or information on how you modified it or what you did.

Here is my S14 with retrofitted RX330 projectors. Has an amazing cutoff and makes me feel like im driving in a luxury car at night :squintd:

This is very true. You can do probabily get some one to do it for you and it would be cheaper. I go there for ideas with my LEDs :fawk2:

Uhm, yeah holy shit...you can get a whole freaking front end for the amount they're asking for just a headlight kit it seems. I mean I'm sure it's super high quality, but damn...if I'm spending that kinda money on headlights it would be on a Bimmer or some shit, not a 240 lol...

Who the hell do you guys think actually buys some of Mike's stuff? It sure hell ain't guys in here. Clearcorners been around since this site was up for the most part. Been converting lights to look OEM since before most of you guys knew what the hell a 240sx is. Just in case you guys dont know who owns/runs/makes those lights...its our in house sweetie poo named IXFXI. So that would explain why anytime there's a lighting related thread pops up, he usually does a cameo.

He'll be in here soon enough... :keke:

I did read in a thread the article on the good the blue and the ugly, and surprisingly....it didn't sway me away from "blind everybody and kill the roadways" eBay Bi-Xenons.

Looking to see what a lot of people post in here as I just picked up some H4 housings....but they were shattered on arrival, so I don't know what to do but the stock garbage has got to go, s13 popups.

Butt hurt doesn't even apply here. I'm not offended about anything. Also, this is only the second thread I've been negative in lately, not every single thread I comment in. It's a forum, if you can't handle negativity then give up at life.

You're slightly offended because I quoted you. Thanks for sharing the origin of the pic, but don't expect everyone to know exactly where it came from. It's hypocritical that you're telling someone to stop trying to be a badass, don't you think?

Not at all. This is a lighting based thread focused on lighting. It just so happens that our resident member Mike Mamos is a professional in this field of work.

For you to come out of left field and talk about "nut swinging" is completely unnecessary. Anyone who has taken a basic college level course in psychology will see that you are seeking attention. And I admit, I'm enabling it at the moment.

No need to further this discussion. You can if you want to, but I won't be.

Hoffman5982
06-29-2012, 02:39 AM
Again, your nut swinging was not relevant to the thread. Unless you were posting that you pm'd him with a link to this thread to bring it to his attention quicker, anything you say in regards to him has no value.

I'm done as well as you clearly aren't going to look at this any other way than "he insulted me and I'm offended, but I'm not wrong."

Just get some hella ecodes or cibie housings. You can either put in some good quality halogen bulbs or just put HIDs!!! Honestly who cares! It is your car and your problem. If you want to be super sexy and risk getting a ticket or someone coming out with a baseball bat and beating on your car, then so be it! If you want to do everything super legit then get a retrofit! We can all talk all day about lights but this is what it comes down to. Everyone has their own opinion on what is right or wrong. This thread is pretty much pointless in my opinion.

if i am understanding you correctly

you either have your headlights flush mounted (Z32-style) or you have them raised and locked, for a reason that I cant seem to understand.

our cars came with raised headlights for a reason, it lifts the light to a reasonable height allowing good output. If you're stuck pop-up, then install some e-code lights and be done with it. hella is the low-cost solution, cibie is the fancier solution.

if you are running a flush headlight setup, then you're fucked. flush headlights are fucked in every aspect, none of which i want to discuss. i had this discussion briefly with jizzer-jordan-innovisions with his FD.... and to me, flush headlights pose a lot more problems than people care to think about - but they eventually find out, the hard way.

Sorry for not explaining correctly, i have regular stock popups not those weird looking flush kits. I just don't have the headlight retractor installed, the headlights are fixed open or at any height i decide manually... I've always like the dual projector for dedicated low and high, but most of the online kits offer no image of the output... i've seen your work around the forum would have been nice to save up and afford some quality lighting instead of crap.

Do you recommend using Hids on the Cibies? or staying halogen for that type of housing?

whiterps13
07-03-2012, 08:45 AM
Do you recommend using Hids on the Cibies? or staying halogen for that type of housing?

Bro, read his website. You will understand that using HID's in a housing designed for Halogens will never be condoned by him. Thats why retrofitting projectors, which are designed for HID's, is so important (if you want it done RIGHT).

ixfxi
07-03-2012, 10:13 AM
^^^ haha this guy is smart. seriously. i was losing faith in humanity but you just stepped it up a notch.

to clarify though, there are reflector headlights that are xenon (03-05 g35 coupe for example).... but typically, most projectors tend to perform a better (subjective though)

bottom line, if you want good headlights all you need are: 2 good headlights.

i often wonder if people here are stupid or what. this forum has been around FOREVER, people have bought countless amounts of e-code lights over the years. anyone care to chime in and discuss how much happier they were after installing an e-code headlight?

I don't know if this thread is worth posting in anymore? do people still want to see cool lighting mods (NOT HID KITS)?

Something I'm working on currently. I think I need to add a vertical inner diffuser to make it look more OEM, since the clear lens I made isn't fluted.

It might be your stiff suspension? Mine jiggle, but it's because of my stiff coils...trust me my projectors are secure! It's more like sharp movement not jiggle, because of the sharp cutoff lines.

LOL!!! Like he would fucking share how he makes his lights. He was trying to learn me on 370z projectors in my kouki lights and proceeded to stop himself and go "well you know some things have to remain a secret".

Mike while his lights may be overpriced, the fact they're drop in, you can't tell they're modded until they make your retina's bleed, and he only works with new donor's for the most part says a lot. I've seen a lot of his prototype lighting too, he's got people from all around the world throwing money at him. Too bad he spends most of his time working on a fucking miata instead of finishing his own car as parts get discontinued.

Ixfxi...got and pics of the inside of the kouki tails? Wanna see your setup...what kind of LEDs, Cree, lumileds, piranha?

I've also always wondered this myself.

I've always had a hunch that uses some sort of SMT (Surface Mount Tech.) LEDs. And it appears so on those 370Z headlight set up that was just posted up.
There is also no other way that I could think of pulling off so many LEDs in the limited areas that he's done with any through-hole style LEDs. like Lumileds, ebay-superfluxs, bullet types, etc.
But the lining effects on the 370Z lights look similar of a LED strip that I've seen a lot of custom LED shops in Japan use.

relevant to the topic, here's a shot of the lights im working on for Ryan Bell for the Las Vegas FD night event.

Nice, very clean cut off for non hid projectors, you should do a write up!

Te37
09-19-2012, 09:58 AM
The cutoff in not affected by hid or halogen, the projector itself determines the cutoff And sharpness. Get some nice silverstar ultra bulbs and you will be ballin, oh and an alignment.

silviaks2nr
09-19-2012, 12:09 PM
the rotational alignment is way off. I would never use projectors designed to be encased in a housing open to the elements. You need a way to protect the front projector lenses and to seal the projector bowl halves and rear at the bulb seat. Ideal projectors for this application would be hella 90mm units, either halogen or hid. http://www.lancerproject.ca/HellaLightsConversion/HellaHeadlights_14.jpg

alignment? the entrance to garage wasn't leveled... if that's what you're referring to

the rotational alignment isnt that bad...
protect front projector lenses? what lenses?
as for the bowl halves yea I'm slightly worried, but they're easily replaceable
and the rear bulb seats don't need to be sealed they're tucked up under the cover, safe from direct elements...

I do plan on making lenses at some point... didn't do it this time, just wanted to finish them and mount them ... now that they're mounted I know exactly how much I have so it'll still opens and closes safely

does it really matter? he's not in a state that needs to pass inspection. he's not knowledgeable to where he has a proper understanding of optics and light design. at this point, its all fun and games... i doubt any amount of posting on the internet is going to push him towards re-creating that mess into something worth-while. i'm not dissing at all, it works it works is all the owner cares about.

my point? car looks like its going to be at a pick-a-part location soon... so why bother. (second part i was totally talking shit)

if the owner was actually interested in advice i think it would be a different situation. thank god that shit is still halogen, burn that moisture right off and less glare to worry about. how awesome would it be if it was xenon, exposed to the elements, mis-aligned, high-tension wires dangling around the rear of the light fixture near all that cutup metal from the headlight buckets.

fuck.... im too old for this shit.

i think that it takes a russian to install those onto the above s13

that being said, why dont you use your czecho/slovak common sense and do some measurements

you see, once you measure the dimensions of the nsx headlight assembly (which i have already done), and measure the dimensions of the s13 headlight bucket assembly (which i have already done), and measure the clearances between the headlight bucket assembly TO radiator core support (which i have already done) ................

then you realize that the above "looks-so-cool-online" race-spec drift car is purely show and:
1) cannot lift and retract, like its supposed to
2) is probably not aligned properly (i almost guarantee that)
3) has a radiator core support that has been cut and/or compromised

i, like dave chappelle, like believing in certain stereotypes being true. i have many russian friends and i can tell you that they do things in very russian ways. a search on youtube "crazy russian" will reveal many interesting videos, all of which are spectacular. what does this mean? this means that the above car is 100% "check me out" and 0% finished, usable, reliable product. also, list pricing on those headlights (new) is just shy of $700/each (for halogen projectors) and finding them used, while possible, is not easy.

what do i know, i sell cellular service for AT&T. the guy you want at clearcorners is that other mike (ie: not me)

A je to! (and if you understand czech, then you understand what it takes to install the above)

seriously? i thought that was only fo dekorashun. woo WOOOOOOooOOO!

does it really matter? he's not in a state that needs to pass inspection. he's not knowledgeable to where he has a proper understanding of optics and light design. at this point, its all fun and games... i doubt any amount of posting on the internet is going to push him towards re-creating that mess into something worth-while. i'm not dissing at all, it works it works is all the owner cares about.

my point? car looks like its going to be at a pick-a-part location soon... so why bother.

True stories. I sometimes forget the general crowd here on Zilvia. Very few people want to do anything the right way.

Morimoto D2 Bi-xenon [high beam nigga] retrofitted to some ebay ABS housings w clear lenses. Theretrofitsource.com

Old photo. They're quite a bit of work and maintenance with the flip-up feature still active. The 3 tiny lines moving past the middle of the clear housing do split up the beam a bit, but there's still good cutoff and I love the output :P. Nice having better lights than most jags and Bmw's.

Not sure if i like the blacked-out zombie housing look anymore. Might pull em apart and redo.
Worst part of their kits are the relays. Get Bosch relays instead.

So your argument is that since they are not certified by the DOT, they are not real and should not be in cars?

If that is the case, then alot of the cars on this site should not even be on the road....given that most aftermarket parts are for "off road".

I in no way implied that Morimoto is a cheap brand. However, Morimoto IS massed produced in China and the defective units are picked out by QC here in the States. I my self like Morimoto and run it on my vehicles because I like HID's and they are easy to install than a traditional HID retrofit. They are not top notch quality, but like I said, they are the easiest to install.

So your argument is that since they are not certified by the DOT, they are not real and should not be in cars?

My argument is that you dont understand the process. The DOT does not certify anything, they only set the standards. You see, a reputable manufacturer is supposed to be responsible for your safety. They are supposed to send their parts out for independent testing to ensure the product they are selling is compliant. If they sell headlights, that headlight design should be compliant for the country they are being sold in.

If that is the case, then alot of the cars on this site should not even be on the road....given that most aftermarket parts are for "off road".

Thats right, this is why hockey pucks should not be used as engine mounts, tires shouldnt be stretched beyond their limitation, and cars should not be excessively lowered. You see, there are things called standards that we need to adhere to. I am not saying I follow all the rules, but the difference between me and the common Zilvian is that I at least know the rules.

Please go into further detail about the cheap morimoto brand? Everybody on this forum seems to be brainwashed that xifi whatever is some lighting god.

i wouldnt go so far as to hate the guy
at the very least, its a worthy attempt... nothing wrong with that

its like the guys that install polyurethane bushings in their car... at the very least its better than driving around with busted old bushings. but after a while, you start to realize why they're inferior, and then you pull them out only to start over again.

im not going to necessarily bash morimoto products and say their trash. rebased HID kits are trash. these are.... trashy, but not trash. i just happen to be a stickler for OEM parts and understand that they're superior.

The worst thing is motorcycles with HID's. Especially OEM ones. The sharper the cutoff the more annoying. It makes it look like a flashing beam when they are bouncing up and down in the opposite lane, when one is at an unfortunate angle causing the cutoff to constantly go in an out of view.

I am not sure why the sharpest cutoff possible is supposed to be a good thing. Obviously, the direction of the light does need to be limited so it does not go everywhere and blind everyone around, but it seems that a soft gradual cutoff would be much more comfortable on the eyes of the driver and everyone around.
Not that it does not look cool, of course.

from this magazine and previous magazines, it seems like it's quite popular to use the strips of LED lights to going about LED conversions in Japan. Such as headlight work, random ext/interior lighting. and also starting to see more "drl" interior LED lighting, but with a softer light and a not-as-harsh-on-the-eyes LED setup.

however, when it comes down to taillight makings, japan is still holding it down. heres a few of my favorite shops that have been pumping out some cool stuff.

yeah, ive always preffered the japanese way of going about LED conversions. they focus a lot more on showing the individual LED bulbs rather than the american way where it's mostly focusing on just getting a brighter end result. which is kinda lame imo.

I've done a few, price varies upon the amount of LEDs used. Typical cost ranges from $200-250.

Here are a the pics of LED conversions i've done this past year. (also at the bottom of p.2 in this thread)

Overpriced because you cant afford it or overpriced because its a better product?

Overpriced because I don't see why it cost 3 times more than Hella E-codes just for having a better high-beat output. The majority of s13 owners drive in the city so they don't use their high beams that much so no need for overpaying.

I'm always amazed at how people just talk about things without proper knowledge. The Cibie headlight is a better headlight, hands down. This is not even a topic for discussion, just check the ISO sheets. The high beam performance of the Hella blows cock.
Cibie's are good but not enough to justify paying much more than E-codes. Maybe if I used them on my offroad truck which is used in those dark mountains. But then again that's what the Lightforces are for E-codes are fine

But hey, I guess some people are into blowing cock. Yeah I can see that. I'll let you get back on your knees

gotta close look at the rocket rabbit frs' taillights during fatlace's paddock sale. pretty shnazzy! I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it was put together! i want to assume it's a custom housing inside. but it could also just be a board with the led reflectors placed in there, and holes cut in the board to let the glowing bar thing to go out and go to its shape, then back inside behind the board, where there are LEDs lighting it up. either way this was done reeallllyyyy well! supposedly fixed up by some shop in japan.

I can't imagine how poor the output is of minis behind the thick oem glass lenses. Get some headlight lenses from aftermarket headlights and swap 'em on at least.

josh_schul
12-01-2012, 04:13 PM
Output is just fine.... idk how you think the oem clear glass could affect light output that much?... It was designed around a projected halogen beam and is (relatively) clear and uniform where the projector is. If it was behind a fluted lens i could see your point... but its a headlight... its designed to allow light to pass through it with minimal affects. Yes... it could be better in another set... but its is literally 1000000000x better than the halogen projector. Im not saying this setup is uber baller or anything... but it is functional and only cost me $170 bucks in parts.

Looking forward to cut off pictures. I'm going to get a retrofit done with the same projectors

silviaks2nr
12-01-2012, 11:16 PM
I've done half a dozen kouki retrofits, the glass lens really does have a huge negative affect on the intensity and where the light is dispersed as well. It took several iterations of my own personal retrofits to realize this and I went so far as to make my own clear lenses before the vertex lights existed. It's not a must, but well worth the investment to swap the lenses IMO.

josh_schul
12-02-2012, 11:14 AM
I hear ya... i most likely will swap lenses at some point. But, right now its not on the priority list. Gotta finish the heart of the car this month haha.

remove the back screws ..
then you'll bake it...in my case I used a heat gun
you heat it all the way around not so much on the lenses though...
gently pry it out should be able to push them out from behind
if it starts getting too difficult just warm up the glue again

Razi

For the glowing bars, it's probably a chunk of acrylic that got sanded a bit.
BMW uses that sort of magic in their taillights.

http://www.ziptied.com/Coppermine/albums/userpics/10715/IMG_0818.JPG

Sand it down, shine an LED through it, and it glows.

What is the best way to attach an SMD LED panel to the back of a lens?
Is there any sort of a clear adhesive that can be applied, without obstructing the light output?
If possible I would prefer something that can still be removed if desired, without damaging the lens or the LED's.
