I have been searching for this answer since I have been looking for a LSD. Now on FRsport, they have for example

Tomei 562016 Technical Trax 2-Way LSD 180SX 240SX Silvia AXA
1989 - 1996 Nissan 240SX MT/AT REAR VISCOUS

and

Tomei 562021 Technical Trax 2-Way LSD 180SX 240SX Silvia OPEN IA
1995 - 1998 Nissan 240SX (S14) L4 2.4L KA24DE MT/AT REAR OPEN DIFFERENTIAL

I also see this for Kaaz and Carbonetic as well. Could anyone shed some light as to the differences?

thanks in advance!

The rear VISCOUS (SE trim 240sx) model is for 5 bolt axles and the rear OPEN DIFFERENTIAL (BASE trim 240sx) model is for 6 bolt axles.

but does that matter if you are buying a limited slip differential? you should be able to reuse your bolt configuration though correct?

It's simple, stop over complicating it. If you have a VLSD (aka viscous diff) in your car buy the differential for the VLSD. If you have an open diff, buy the open diff for it. They obviously differ from each other... The differentials are designed to work with your axles stubs. The VLSD has unequal length shafts and the open has the same length shafts, that's where the difference lies.

thats perfect, and so if im buying a used differential then itll make a difference if it was for a vlsd or open diff correct?
