ok, i've done this before but never on a automatic, the engine is a KA24de and after intalling the front seal my impact gun will not fit... i've always known to put the car in gear, so i guessed put the automatic in "drive" and it would do the same but when i go to torque down the bolt the pulley keeps on moving... i need to get more torque on that bolt, since its still leaking a bit... any advice?, i already searched but all i can find is "put it in gear" which im doing with no results...

take off starter and wedge a Pry bar in there

Sppose to Trq it down with a Trq wrench, not impact

Explain what you mean by "the impact gun won't fit"

yeah, i know it's with a torque wrench but since i didn't have one i was going to give a try to get it a little tighter...

What i mean by "the impact gun won't fit" is that my impact gun is so stupidly big that it's won't fit between the condenser and the pulley bolt, i removed the radiator and everything and still wouldn't fit...

Remove starter or use chain vice grips to lock it up

Try a pry bar (1/2" socket style) with an extension slipped over it, like a jack handle, should give you a bit of extra muscle. I second what Sileighty says. Wedge the pry bar against the ring gear.

im using a breaker bar with a 1/2 socket right now but as soon as it starts to torque the pulley moves... isn't the crank supposed to stay still while the trans is in "drive"? i'm gonna have to do the pry bar against the starter cause nobody over here has a impact wrench they can lend me...

but im still stuck on that small detail, when you want to torque it down on a manual you put it in gear, isn't the "drive" gear of the auto supposed to do the same thing? like i said first time i ever do this on a automatic

auto trans are a bit different.. you could leave it in park and the trans wouldnt be able to rotate.

exactly... it keeps rotating (the pulley) even when in park or in any gear... and yes i have ebrake on in case anybody is going to point that out...

got it really tight with a big breaker bar and the starter/pry bar trick, didn't want to have to resort to that but i had no other option, worked perfectly... thanks guys!
