My Tranny is leaking gear oil so im guessing my seal is busted, also it sounds like im in reverse in every gear even after i put fluid in the tranny, so my throwout bearing is giving up on me also,.
what's the worst-case scenario and best-case scenario for me and my tranny?
best would prolly be that i just add gear oil and everything is back to normal which i highly doubt.
worst is prolly that i need to rebuild my tranny???
if the latter would it be cheaper if i just get a used tranny and replace it myself along with new clutch?
or to remove tranny drop-off at rebuild shop and re-install. the rebuild should be better in the long run. right???
quotes?? price wise i mean

with the sheer number of ppl doing sr20 swaps nowadays (im assuing u have a ka) a ka tranny is very cheap. u can get one for 100 dollars or less. for that price why bother getting it rebuilt it at shop? buy one and rebuild your old one yourself as a do-it-urself learning project. or, just use it as a big dirty paperweight.
throw out bearing is no biggy either. btw symptom is bad noise when u clutch in. i dont believe it has any effect on how a car sounds in gear and driving. from what ive heard, drop tranny, press out old bearing, press in new bearing, voila ur done.
If it is growling all the time it could also be pilot bushing. I would see if you could find the exact problem with the tranny noise before worry'n aboiut another tranny with different problems. You may just need a good clutch job. Any good mechanic should be able to tell you if its a pilot bearing or throwout bearing or even a tranny bearing by listening to it. Again I recommend finding out what your problem is before worry'n abou fixing it. if it does turn out to need another tranny I'm with aznpoopy buy a used one for cheap!

sounds good guys as for the bearing sound yea it goes away when i press on the clutch. and i definitely need a clutch job but im kinda strapped for cash so i was thinking if i could just remove the tranny replace with a used one replace bearing and clutch resurface my flywheel and i should be good to go right?
but yea bone is right i should figure out what the sound actually is before ass-uming anything
thanks guys
