GM synchro mesh. Yep, you heard that right. Available at your local GM dealership. Really nice stuff. DRFT, your car is an auto? Get that 5-speed in there quick!!!! hehe.
yup its a auto! gonna be gone soon i hope! just basically waiting on tranny to engine bolts if you got any?
o and btw how much are a quart(or pint?) and how much do i need? im too lazy to check my FSM

2.5L IIRC for the 5spd KA tranny. I'm running Amsoil. Hoping it lasts longer than the MT-90 i used to have.
agreed w/ nightwalker -- I've heard GM Synchroshift is some really great stuff! I haven't tried it though; I'm still just running some mobil 1 75-90 gear oil... so far so good!

Penzoil Synchromesh is the same as the GM Synchromesh, only it's cheaper. Penzoil makes it for GM. You can find it at any AutoZone.
This stuff is much better than Redline...trust me, you'll enjoy it. I used to use Redline in all of my cars. I swtiched everything I've ever owned and dozens of other cars over to synchromesh...big improvement.

if you get GM syncromesh you have to make sure to get the friction modified kind. the regular syncromesh is nothing special.
Improvement meaning smoother shifting, smaller delays before the shifter goes into gear, and generally better shifter "feel".

You could just get a Lucas Tranny additive for a generally better shifting feel...

does penzoil make the friction modified one? or GM only.

I'm running Valvoline Synthetic 95W140 in the tranny, straight 140 in the diff (Torsen, not VLSD), and 15W40 in the motor.
After all the fluids warm up, everything shifts smoother than you can imagine... but in the morning when it's cold, it DOES take a little more effort to get into gear. I usually let the car warm up for 5-10 minutes before driving off.
I don't think I'd recommend such heavy oils for daily-driving. My car gets quite a bit of track abuse, so I figure the heavier-weight oils couldn't hurt.

man i did have a 5 gallon bucket of the mobile one synetic gear oil, with maybe 4 quarts gone, but some fuck stole it, or used it on one of the n-loaders not looking a the label MORON. but now im using the redline stuff, didnt notice a difference between the two
what's a "gl rating"? And what is it about it that's so bad?? Makes me glad i didn't get to drive it much (at all) since I put it in almost a year ago. :p

thye wrong gl will have stuff in it that is not good with particular metals in our transmissions.
search about it on freshalloy.
if you dont care, then fine, it's your problem, not mine.

ok, i heard that penzoil makes the gear oil for the GM synchromesh. what i also heard is there are to kinds of GM synchromesh: regular and friction modified. does penzoil stock this one or is it only available through the GM name?

Friction modified??
There is no such thing.
I've talked with both GM and Penzoil. There is only one GM Symchromesh. Penzoil makes it and you can buy it in yellow bottles for $3.75 at Autozone or in black bottles for $9.75 at any GM/Chevy/Pontiac dealer that stocks it.

Peolpe may be confusing BG Synchroshift with GM Synchromesh.
They are totoally unrelated and BG has a "Friction modifier" I believe.

now if someone could actually tell me whether penzoil makes a friction modified version of this gear oil i would appreciate it very much. i'd rather not pay the extra 7 bucks if i don't have to.

ok my earlier statement about gm synchromesh friction modified was slightly off. they do make it, but they only use it in the chevy/gmc 1500 series trucks. i found out that people have used regular synchromesh and it does the job just fine. sorry for the misinformation guys i hope this clears things up.

yeah regular syncromesh is fine. just go buy the pennzoil brand. same thing, but cheaper. i have also heard the texaco brand is the same thing too. haven't confirmed that though.

I use the same so I'm in the same boat. When it's cold it does suck, but when the car is warmed up it runs great.

I change my tranny, differential, coolant, and power steering every 30k miles.
do you have an LSD? If so, what type? If you have a clutch type LSD, you should be changing your Diff oil about every 2,000 miles. Otherwise, sounds good. I don't think you need to change PS or coolant that frequently... I guess it couldn't hurt either though.

No KAAZ/NISMO. It's a Torsen.

I went on the torsen website, and there aren't any applications for nissans. So which one are you running?
