Yup yup (don't know about US) but there are NA S13s in Japan w/ the SR20DE. Also, I heard that the drivetrain doesn't matter to much...e.g. A 4AGZE(I think thats the code for supercharged hachi engine) is FWD in japan but they swap right into the US Hachi Rokus(RWD). This is just info I've heard so don't quote me on it, just assure me or disprove me! :D

If he is talking about a US 200sx/Sentra SR20DE, a swap (engine only) is not going to happen. Parts are somewhat interchangeable between the det and the de, but a transaxle based FF (while sits completely different, with the crank pointing toward the fender) will not drop into a FR type of car, unless someone plans on a major operation which is just silly...imho.
US SR20DEs are available at most junkyards since there are a lot of 200sx/Sentra drivers around. Just look around...
I almost forgot, the engines go for around $150 to $300 around here (91 and up) in San Antonio...

Yes, but they do make SR20DE Rwd in Japan, do they not? If so, where may I find one and how much may I expect to pay?

We have established the fact that they do make those and now that I know which engine you are talking about, SR20DE engine sets are a don't ask don't tell item with importers. I know that importfan.com had a cache of them brand new for about $1.5k last year. I have seen the price range from $800 to $2k used, the lower being engine only with harness/ecu/and misc parts. You have to look around though, the prices I saw were from over 2 years ago from importers that went out of business.

There are 3 trim levels....J, Q, and K standing for Jack, Queen, and King
J= sr20de
Q=sr20de
K=sr20det
I delieve there might have been a special edition of the Q's with an sr20det but I am not sure what the designation was.
but why do you want to swap out the KA for the sr20de, the ka makes more power
isnt there a A's almighty or something like that? a SR20DET in a J's body? kinda like the new evo RS, the performance of the highest model in a base model body

Why the hell would you go for less displacement? The KA is a pretty good damn engine.

i also, like the na sr20de. theres just somthing about 8000rpm redlines, screaming 12:1 compression, exhaust and ITBs :wink: that just gets to me....but thas just me.
its really not all that logical if you think about the power to money ratio. but hey, if you want it, go for it....and den lemme test drive it :p
there should be more built na 240s :)
its pure sex.....atlantic 20v 4age in s13 coupe :drool:
edit: oh yea, no rwd sr20de's are present in the us, only jdm n foreign....grab a ca18det from a s12

yes, SR20DE's come in some NX2000's, 200sx SE-R's and Infinity G20's. These are all NA and FWD however.
RWD SR20DE's did not come to the states. No RWD SR came to the states.

Yummm...ITBs...=) The only reason for the SR20DE is cause of the redline and the fact that its built right...it won't "shake itself to pieces," as my friend says.

I can understand the higher redline, though out of curiosity why trade out the KA for a smaller, less powerful engine?
Reminder: The US s12s had a ca18et, not det. . . rather different moor

lighter and the ability to say "its an sr without a turbo" maybe? more aftermarket parts maybe? ....I am not defending him,or dissing him...I chose KA:)

i say go for it! a N/A sr20de would confuse the hell out of every ricer you ever meet. plus everyone is always complaining... everything's been done... nobody is doing anything different. n/a sr20 is pretty different. less hp, more driver! woot.
Ricer : "Hey man, you got a SR in that Silvia??"
You :"Yeah man, a SR20DE (pause) ... puts out less hp then my stock engine!" (say it with enthusiasm!!!)
seriously though if you did get that swapped in, it'd be interesting to see where you could go with it. a built N/A sr20... that would be a first.

KA with a top engine brace shouldn't shake itself apart. If they run KA's in SCCA GT3 road racing (with good success), you can build one that wont shake itself to pieces. You can also look into destroking a KA with an L or Z block (or even SR) crank. Of course, you'll never do any of this Galen, haha.

Its cool that they are based in Va....meaning they are the only shop I could take my s13 to get the SR swap done...but they charge like 5,100 bucks for a complete turn-key SR swap :down: :( ...

I've spent some time researching the NA RWD SR20 motor, and apparently the Japanese have 220-260 rwhp tuned ones running around. Plus ITBs are the $hit.
Tomei sells turnkey engines that will make around 200hp at the wheels, the rest is tuning and parts. For an autoX or race setup, that would be killer. NA has a response to it that I love so much. The SR20 na is also lighter than the KA. I'd love to see someone do this. Once I get my Carboy mag back from my grubby friends, I'll show some pics. It's actually pretty nice.

#1 - theres more to cars/imports then just upgrading power and handling
#2 - the engine in question is a rwd sr20de from a silvia j or q. stop skimming

just keep the KA, no ned to swap, and u can just build that
i think a built KA has more potential than a SR
