NECESSARY PRE EXHAUST INFO:
So my plan is to build my S14 KA24DE motor in my S13 coupe to a DET. I have all the parts ready to order going with a megan turbo manifold and a S14 t28 turbo.
{{{{EXHAUST}}}}} i was thinking about fabricating my own. My dad's buddy is a pro welder, he welds his own race car frames and exhaust. Would it be more efficiant horsepower wise to do this, with the top of the line metals necessary?!? Or to go with like the top of the line HKS or whoever?
PLEASE: feel free to tell me if i look dumb for asking this question.

Definitely a stupid question...
Buy an off the shelf cat-back and build your own down pipe.

top mount turbo or bottom mount? if you go bottom mount, there are downpipes and exhaust system, but if its top mount- its usually custom made.

im going bottom mount, i dont think they make top mount for t2 flange anyways
Bottom mount is cake. Get any exhaust you want or can afford that is for your car. You can also use any aftermarket sr20 turbo elbow to bolt up to that s14 t28. Get some cheap sr20 3' downpipe (megan if u want cause it has a flexpipe) then have the exhaust shop cut it and modify to the length you need as you mock it up. I do not remember if I had to lengthen it or shorten it, but you deff need to modify the dp for it to work.
BTW there are companies that make a top mount manifold that is T2 flanged. Forgot the names but you can always call up Full Race or other companies and have one made to order if you have the $$$ to play.

I like the sound of the sr20 turbo elbow and downpipe, i might try to keep it as simple as possible. I'm still just exploring options though so input is much appreciated! But imma just stay with a bottom mount for sure... saving as much cash as possible without being too cheap
The last KA-T build I did I used a megan down pipe since it has the flex pipe in there and I happened to run across a greddy turbo elbow I had in my garage from the last SR build I did. It is alot cheaper than having someone custom build you parts when you can use off the shelf parts. That will be the least expensive solution for your build. With your resources it should be a no brainier to just grab something off ebay. Total cost for all 3 pieces (catback exhaust, sr20 downpipe, turbo elbow) should run you no more than 300-400 tops. If you really want to play the cheap game search the for sale section and look for used parts on the cheap. I know others will knock me for even suggesting ebay and knock off parts, but it works well and it will do the job. Plus your going to have to cut and modify the downpipe anyhow, why buy a nice one to butcher it up.

Yea im not trying to be too cheap with it, i have a nice paying job for my age so I'm just gunna stay simple with the customization for now and buy a nice set up, maybe another build i'll make my own exhaust and what not. I wouldnt knock you for using ebay though haha thanks for the tips man!

I've been running an Ebay s13 catback on my SR for 3 years now, not a single problem yet. I made my own 3.5" catback for my RB out of aluminized steel and a bullet style dynomax muffler. BUT, if I had the money to burn on a decent/nice exhaust... Apexi N1... all the way... My buddy from Black Ops Performance imports JDM cars and one S15 he had came with one and it sounded amazing... Perfect tones across the RPM range with no overwhelming drone. Look into it.

Thats funny you brought up the N1, i was looking at getting the full N1 exhaust and the Apexi GT spec 80mm down pip to match if i were to just buy a set up. Im working a lot more than i thought i would this summer so i have some money to play with. It's nice to hear good things bout the apexi set up though, so now I'm really considering it, thanks!
