I know you guys must get alot of these theads but I really need an opinion on this. I'm looking at a '95 5spd S14 wit 120k miles on it. Apex N1 turbo muffler with 3" header back pipes. Hotshot header. Needs a new catalytic converter (not expensive I know) and the front bumper is a little chipped up. Other than that the car is fine. Nice leather interior, security system, power locks, power windows, CD player. Exhaust looks a little rusted. . . . I can get it for $5800. The blue book value is something like $4300 for a private party sale. I understand the blue book can be inaccurate when it comes to sporty cars so I need to know from you guys is this a fair price to pay? I don't think I left out any important details... Thanks for your help.

That's too much, even for an SE with that many miles. I'd say $5000 MAX if it's an SE. You can find S14 base models for less $3000. I'd keep looking if I were you.

I would talk him down to $4500 since the engine is a little tired and the car's body is not immaculate. The headers and exhaust should not add more value than $800 at most, and that is new...thelinja has a point as well

No more than 5,000. His mods don't mean crap. I got mine for 4,850 just so you can compare, also base but all stock.

s14's are selling for 5-12k these days.
I paid 4k for my 95 SE hard loaded, with new paint and tires. It depends on your patients they are out there.

I paid 6500 for my 96 base model with 60K miles. I shouldve waited to find an SE model, but 240's are very hard to find for sale in north florida.

Too much. I paid $5500 for a '95 SE with SR20DET already swapped. Just needs paintjob.

4800 for me, fully loaded SE minus leather with auto (82K miles)
I think offering him 4500 for that car would be a good deal ;)

Yeah, and I paid $5000 for mine 2 years ago with 87k miles.
You just aren't looking hard enough, it took me three months to find it.

if it were an s14a you could expect to pay well over blue book, but not for a zenki model, they can be found for cheap.

no no no
s14's period are going for a premium, zenki's and kouki's
here in the bay area, kouki's can go for $9k with 100k miles
if you are getting your car for cheap, its either you bought it a whiles ago, or you dont live in a place like the bay area
i think his asking price of the car is very fair

it really depends on where you live and how available they are in your area. Personally SE are well worth the extra cash spent. the 5 lug bolt pattern will allow you to run a larger variety of wheels that can be staggered. in california, they are hard to come by and really do cost a premium for the 5 spds

its worth whatever someone will pay for it. here in the tri-state area that zenki shouldn't be more then 5k. i got mine 3/4 of a year ago for $4,500ish from a dealership. if its private party it should be cheaper. however, if u don't pay asking for it and someone else does; u might end up hating urself for it. so it all depends... how much you wanna pay and how long you want to wait.

I just saw two Zenkis go by for under 4k here in Ohio, with only 80k on them. They were auto however...

^^^ :wtf:
errrr i did have a shot at a 97 5spd but the dealer wanted 12k for it (50k on odo). a zenki or 2 will pop up for sale every other month or so. ive only seen 1 5spd kouki in the past year. otherwise errm ok... i dont know what that had to do with the topic.

haha...jes saying cuz when i was living in the tri-state last yr, i dont ever remember seeing another kouki other than richards *notoriousgq* Shoot even zenkis were freakin rare as heck. All youll ever find in the north-east are S13s. Then i get back to caLi and 5-speed koukis were dime a dozen.

ah i see now. :)
yes its true. we're kouki deprived. :( i suppose the awesome cali weather makes rwd alot more popular when these cars were getting sold new.

good luck trying to even FIND a kouki 5 speed in CA. You will even be lucky to find a zenki 5 speed here so if you're in CA expect to pay a premium if you buy an s14 from here

Well im not saying for sale tho...i've jes seen alot more 5speed koukis around caLi than anywhere else on the east coast. Well FL would be the exception...u start heading down south FL and u start seeing more S14s than S13s.

i got my 97 s14a with 29k miles for $825, i dunno i wouldnt pay more then 400 for a 95 with that many miles
*note, i am referring to wrecked ones, i dont see paying a bunch for a used car, and then having to save up again for mods, the current car i have i ended up having to spend more then i wanted on repairing it, but what can you do. With 90 percent of cars on the road they have used parts/have been wrecked(some harder then others) they have bondo right from the factory etc. thats why i dont care if i have to fix something, and save money

$5,800??
No thanks. I've seen a '98 with under 100,000 miles sell last May for only $6,000 (SE 5-sp, immaculate).
Remember, aftermarket modifications do NOT affect the resale value. Now, if you WANT to pay for it, you can. But, the VALUE of the car does not change with aftermarket parts (in some instances can even LOWER the value of the car).
Don't pay over Kelly Blue Book. In fact, most time KBB is WAY too much.
My $0.02.
There has been alot more S13's S14's poping up in Va Beach in the past 6 months. Most of them are bandwagon jumpers. Alotta riced out 240's over here. Although there are a good 2 or 3 S14's rolling with SR's. I wouldnt consider myself a bandwagon jumper, ive been hooked on the 240sx since my brother introduced me to the drift scene about 4 years ago.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I haven't made an offer on the car yet but plan to shoot him an email with an offer for $4500. I don't think he'll accept, which is fine. I've decided against paying out the a$$ to get a 240 and just to be patient and see if I can find one for a fair price.

Good, that's the right mentality to have when looking for a car.

It is hard to find 5spd Kouki's in SoCal. Took me around 7 months to get mine. Most were going for 12k+, and not many were 5spds.
