Going to perform a compression test in the next few days on a S14 Series 2.

1) What is the factory compression for the engine, so i can compare the results?

2) When performing the compression test, is it better to do it Cold or Hot?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, a compression test should be done once the engine is warm. I believe general consensus is 150psi ballpark with a nice tight grouping between the cylinders. Normally one of the cylinders returning a number outside of the group is cause for more concern than all of the numbers being consistently lower. Within reason of course.

Also, if the numbers are a bit low, you can add a tablespoon of oil to each cylinder and retest to see if the rings are the cause for lower compression.

Thanks,

When buying a car, apart from the compression test, how else can i make sure that the engine has been cared for previously?

Pull the VC and look for staining... Staining usually means old changes were few and far between.

Yep, check the plugs while theyre out for the compression test. Also remember to pull the fuel pump fuse before cranking for the test and hold the throttle wide open.
