well I found a black '92 240SX FS and it has 150K miles, no dents no accidents as far as i can tell w/o seeing it
Now, I dont have any experience compared to most of you regarding the KA24DE engine and the 240SX so I'm wondering if someone could give me some good advice on what to look out for when I check the car out.
Thanks

Listen to the way motor runs, if there's a clatter: the timing chain hasn't been serviced and that might be a problem at 150K mi. How is the clutch on it? Run a carfax check, see if there was a major accident it was involved in as the frame could be damaged.

Also, give the seats a good inspection. The seat cover around the side bolsters on the front seats tend to wear with years of getting in and out of the car. Not a big problem, but may be worth a couple hundred taken off the asking price if it's bad enough.

A used car is going to have some wear and tear, but to me it all depends on the personality of the previous owner. I look at the seller as much as the car. A young owner is a bad sign (to me). Any signs of modifications or race stickers is also a bad sign. I prefer to look at cars that are bone stock, owned by a female or an older gentleman who kept maintenance records. Aside from that, the car should be straight. Look at all the seams on the car and look for even spacing. Look down the sides of the car and see if you see any previous body work (slight ripples in the bondo). Any obvious defects are bargaining tools. Good luck!

the clutch hehe no worries... the thing is automagic. I'm planning an engine swap in a year or but for now I bought the car for my brother who can only drive auto and wont learn stick. I'll def listen to the engine, do all the standard tests on brakes body and run the VIN through carfax. jus wondering if any of you have had problems with the S13 DOHC 240SXs thanks!

Look at the frame underneath to make sure it isnt rusty, or worse....bent. Look inside the back (behind the tail lights inside) to see if theres any bondo. Look inside the engine bay to see if theres any plastic parts that are glued together. Look to see if theres any rust bubbling up under the spoiler, rear emblems, or underneath right above where the top of the license plate is attached. Look in the spare tire area to see if there are any rust holes there. Check to see that the hood lines up flush with the fenders and the front bumper. Be on the look out for fresh paint. Its actually cheaper to paint the WHOLE car after its wrecked and fixed, than it is to paint part of it (because the time and labor involved in masking off the car to prevent overspray) Look on the springs, tail lights, and trim for overspray. Look that the car isnt missing its origional pinstriping or color tape strip. Look for crinkles or waves in the metal where the radiator connects to the frame. Look for cracks in the plastic (bumpers and interior)

Thats my 2 cents.
