my engine needs new bearings and i pulled the motor out. i totally forgot i do have half tank of gas sitting in there. so all these time(5 months) it just sat there for almost 5 months. is there a way to clean that fuel or ill just pump it out? any suggestion how to clean the gas tank after i pump the old fuel there?

any suggestions would be appreciated

get a tube, shove it in the fuel tank, suck on it like a straw, dump contents into bucket.

Dont do that. Nasty and id say its not safe.

I did the same thing while i was saving to build my block. When i was ready to put my engine back in, i grabbed the feed line in te engine bay and had someone turn the key. I had the hose in a 5 gallon bucket to catch the old gas. When the tank was pretty much empty i filled it with fresh fuel. Used a brand new filter and a week or two later installed another new filter.

5months isn't bad. I've had gas in a tank sit for 2 years and it was still good :-/

Fill it up, add some fuel stabilizer to the tank. Should be good to go.

5 months is nothing, I just cranked and drove mine after 6 months at the end of April.
If you're concerned, stabilize it with a third of a can of Seafoam, top it off with about 10 bucks worth of fresh gas, and drive that out before refilling.

thanks for the input guys. just worried about the moisture build up. got a fully built sr dropping in anytime soon. dont wanna mess up the injectors and such. ill do that fuel stabilizer and replace the fuel filter after 1k of breaking in the engine.

Yeah, I'm approaching the two year mark with a decent amount of fuel still in my tank. I'll dump some additive in and top it off.

With that said, I wouldn't go around boosting on old fuel.

I'm in a similar situation, my car last ran in August-ish of 2010.

If I wanted to empty the tank (I do, the $20ish of fuel isn't worth messing something up) can I do this by powering the fuel pump and re-routing my feed line to a tank/bucket instead of the motor? There's nothing telling me that this won't work, I just want to know if this is a bad practice for some reason.

Jump the fuel pump relay, and let er rip!

Do that, but do it directly at the pump outlet, in the trunk.

The less gunk you put in your fuel filter / fuel lines, the better.

I will have to do the same, car sat for 6 months ... last time i tried running the car after a while, it completely messed up my tune. turned out that a yellowish gunk had formed everywhere and blocked FPR, fuel rail, injectors, fuel filter, fuel lines, tank, fuel pump, fuel pump sock ... i wont make the mistake twice.

Thanks guys.

Croustibat, good call on doing it at the pump. Didn't even think about gunking up my lines.

I'd just siphon it out onto the ground and fill it up with fresh gas.
