Wow, it is about time this kinda stuff starts happening. This is obviously just the first step in this, but it sounds awesome. I might actually have to fire up my 360 and get it connected again.

Microsoft Introduces Second-Screen Feature, Xbox SmartGlass | TechCrunch (http://techcrunch.com/2012/06/04/microsoft-introduces-second-screen-feature-xbox-smartglass/)

Microsoft just announced a new feature called Xbox SmartGlass, a “second screen” feature that allows you to view information about media on the screen of a mobile device or PC.

SmartGlass allows you to view movies on multiple devices – viewing a movie on a tablet and then transferring the video to the screen, for example – and offers detailed media information on TV and movies playing on the big screen at home or on the go.

In the on-screen demo, for example, SmartGlass offered a live map of Game of Thrones as the action appeared on screen, creating an “intelligent companion” to the video.

SmartGlass also allows you to view the web on an Xbox 360 using Internet Explorer. The tablet or phone becomes the keyboard and you can easily browse web pages without having a physical keyboard in the living room.

On the gaming front, SmartGlass connects with current games playing on the screen and allows players to plan plays in sports games or view inventory on a tablet. The service works on iOS tablets and phones as well as Win8 tablets and Windows Phone phones.

The feature closely resembles Nintendo’s Wii U controller but requires no proprietary hardware. Microsoft calls it “the web transformed for TV.”

Not impressed

Does it have cool.features? Maybe... but I question it's practicality... unless everybody enjoys spending 4 hours in 1 game of Madden...

Looks like MS has nothing to show?
I don't think you guys fully comprehend what this means.

There is going to be significant impact on the home entertainment ecosystem (AppleTV, iOS, Netflix, Google, Android, etc etc etc.) and will alter the way we consume media.

Don't argue with him, he will call you bipolar, and draw in non-factors to the discussion at hand to make his point.

yes this looks like the next web tv only this time it may actually work. the fact that ios devices are
compatible is what will allow it to be mainstream

Doesn't seem groundbreaking to me, more of an expansion. My Tivo already has a similar feature; I can control it with my iPhone/Tivo App. It makes searching for programs much easier, with the phone's onboard keyboard. Plus, I can do that while a show is playing on the TV.

I think my Blu-Ray player (Sony) can be controlled via iPhone too, but I haven't used that feature yet.

That's only one piece of the puzzle. You can also view content on any screen whether it's iOS or Android, in addition to WP7 and W8.

If MS can continue to build good licensing partnerships with content providers like movie and tv studios then the xbox is going to make even larger inroads into @home content consumption.

Things like Apple's rumored TV with AppleTV integration, GoogleTV, and other hardware providers attempting to break into your living room are going to have a lot of catching up to do.

Basically, every mobile screen in your house could be a "Wii U controller" for your xbox, or something to that effect.
