Just a survey guys and gals,
I was just curious to know the reasons why everybody here owns an s13/14. What was the reason? Power? Looks? For me it was simple, I saw one on the road and I just had to have one. 1990 240sx green/teal 5 speed totally mint condition

Looks unique; 240SXs are rare in my town; some of my uncles own older 240SXs, and they say they're great cars; Not very powerful in stock trim, but can be made into a monster; Front motor/Rear Wheel Drive; Turbo kits are available; Popular car in Japan and Australia (well, the Silvia), which means there's big support for parts; Easily cuts through sharp corners; Good front/rear balance;

I might be able to think of more... but thats it for now

If you go the main page of www.zilvia.net there is a survey of the question you are asking. But if you want more lenghty responces:

I bought it because it is rwd, and I love turbo engines (sr20det). Plus they look great... well mine does at least.

wanted something with rear wheel drive and air conditioning . It was to replace my trusty 1990 Hardbody truck which I had owned for 7 years . I bought the truck with 20,000 miles on it for $5000. in 1992 . Moved to Socal in 99 needed air wanted another sports car . 240sx was the only one that had room to carry stuff and still was pretty much a full blown sports car. so I bought an 89 Hatch and then last year bought my 91 Hatch with 19,144 miles on it . Yes true miles. :big grin:

may the drift be with you , dpro

Basically, i'd wanted a 300zx for a long time, and when I saw a 240 for sale I thought, "#### good enough." But after I had it for a while, I stopped even thinking about the z.

I bought my S13 because I did'nt want to buy a 300ZX and bring it to England, so this is my car til I get back to the states.

I feel in love with the looks of the S14 and had lusted for once since I saw it....that and the fact that it was rwd nearly 50 50 weight...fully independant suspension and handled like a dream --=D

i bought it because i thought it looked cool. i'll admit, the rear wheel drive didn't attract me, the rareness didn't mean much. i had my eyes set on a del sol, and i only liked car audio back then anyways. to make a long story short, i love the torque, i love the rear wheel drive, and i love the rareness, and i loved kicking the shit out of my cousin's del sol without trying.

i totaled a 90 celica and wanted a sports car so i could still beat civics. i liked the rwd, and its styling. other than that, i didnt know anything about the car but the fact that it was in my price range. now i would have nothing else, but honestly, id love to upgrade from s13 to s14. heh.

I was buying a bmw 328i when the deal fell thru (#### banks) so I started shopping around for a cheap car to get around in for a few months and my lil' brother insisted that I get the 240. He kept ranting about RWD some easy engine swap and great handling :-) So I went out and bought mine and the rest is history.

01-06-2002, 08:37 PM
I had a 300ZX (Z32), sold it for a Lexus sc400, sold it for a Pathfinder, itched for a RWD Nissan again and decided on a 240 as a second car. I loved the fact that its RWD, it was designed by the same team that did the Z32 (and it looks like its little bro), cheap to run, and after seeing all the drifters in Japan on my first trip cemented the image in my mind. If I sell my 240 now it'd *only* be for another Z32.

Actually, I bought mostly because of looks and I wanted to be different. I didn't like Hondas, except Preludes, which were quite expensive for the same year/mileage...

I do not regret buying this car at all... Love it all around.

My first car was a Ford Probe GT Turbo, but it was stolen.
Then I bought a 95 240SX because it was so unique and stylish, but sold it because It to buy 93 300ZX twin turbo. It was too much trouble and expensive. Sold it to my cousin.
Now I have a 97 240SX SE, I love the luxury and sporty look. There is just so much you can do with.
I will never go back.

After driving my Integra for 2 years and riding around in my friends MR-2 (sliding at 80+ through 35 mph corners) I knew I wanted something rwd. I wanted a car that would be as fast, if not faster than an Integra GS-R and I didn't really like the looks of the MR2.

Then one fateful day, a 95/96 S14 pulled in to the parking lot of my apartment complex. I drooled for a while and decided to buy an S14. My first stop was 240sx.org.

Honestly I got swayed in the buying process and *almost* bought a new WRX but decided the styling was a bit off and also I didn't want to pay as much as Scooby dealers were asking.

The mix of styling (god I love the 97/98 S14) and handling (50/50 weight, 16in wheels) and power plus upgradability and the fact that I see maybe one S14 a month in Sacramento (and it's the same owner) made this car an easy decision.

The only hard part was finding it.

I use to drive (and autoX :gasp: ) an Accord, and I was in the market for a 'Teg GS-R (still one of my favorite sport compacts). In the meantime, my mom was in the market for a car that would drink less gas than the Z-71 4x4 she was driving. She bought a little Nissan from a friend of the family. What? It's rear wheel drive? 155hp?...not bad. Hey, mom, how about I borrow it for the next autoX?
After some negotiating we agreed to trade cars for a week so I could get used to it b4 the autoX. Raced it that Sunday and 8 months later still haven't given it back. My mom liked the Accords leather interior and softer suspension anyway, so it was a perfect trade. My favorite characteristic of the car is it's handling and RWD...but power potential isn't far behind that, and it's a beautiful car as well.

Haw, my story kicks ass

I had been searching for cars for a while, something for my first car. Was really looking at economy cars, Saturn sl1 and the like. Wasn't really in a hurry. Then my sister calls from Miami, we talk about cars for a bit, and she said one of her friends was selling an "old nissan for $1200." I wasn't really looking for something old (pre-94), though it did have a mere 70k miles on it. So, I figger what the ####, maybe I'd be able to skip bank payments. She got me the model number and trim, I looked it up later that night. Thought to myself "sheat!!" Called her back and said the check was in the mail. 4000 miles later, I finally got my white '89 SE auto hatchback home and was quite pleased. Drove it for a good year, then noticed a metallic red '92 SE 5spd hatch at the dealership. Thought "sheat" again, told my mom about it in a passing conversation. . . Next morning before school she lays out a full financial plan to buy the car and sell my old one to my sister. So, we go test drive it, plunk down some cash, and I drive to work in it that afternoon. Never, EVER, going back to an auto sports car

And that is the story of the pretty l'il red thing in my avatar.

EDIT: Needless to say, I married for looks and money

I saw the big red f***er sitting way outside the Nissan dealership (they sat it wayover by the main rd side to attract attention).
It took my breath away on sight.
Red s14a just sitting there on its own. Looked huge and just took my breath right away. I would have met any payment to drive off in that car. And i did
The feeling when the sales guy concluded the deal and gave me the keys and i got in it anfd drove it away with everyone now staring at ME was something else.
Other cars make me sick with boredom.
Plus it had everything i wanted at a reasonable price.
OMG i love my SX and i hope everyone still goes out and buys their fords and hondas so i can continue to bask in its rarity

Hey NoTuchn, I totalled a 90 Celica also, so I got my 97 240SX because it blew me away with its handling and the nice looks compared to the Celica (plus RWD).

But we fixed the 90 celica up too, and my sis is driving it now. I still love that car though, something about it is just more solid than the 240..

a 4 cylinder 3-speed auto minivan is no way to commute back and forth 70 miles from home to school.... and even around school. add some initial D into the mix, and you get a college student looking for an easily insureable, non-gas-eating, RWD car..... $3000 later I had a black 1992 (made in late '91) S13 fastback.

Walked into a dealership and said "I'm looking for something sporty. An Integra, Supra, or Prelude for example. You got anything on the lot like that?" Dealer said, "I got a Taurus." Stupified, I said, "The Taurus is a nice car. My grandmother drives one. On the other hand, my grandmother drives one!!" and left the dealership.

Went to another one. Used the same intro. Dealer said, "I got a 240sx." I was naive, very naive. Weary from the last place, I said, "And what kind of car is that?" The dealer pointed to one of the most beautiful cars I had ever seen. I was practically in love on the spot. He said, simply, "that." (It was a black '91 SE coupe, btw)

But what really sold me? How tightly my friend was gripping the passenger door during the test drive.

See that little photo on the left? That's a '94 black del Sol. My intense desire to own a convertible without giving up a coupe drove me to one. I'm sorry. I know it's a Honda, but after a test drive, I just couldn't help myself.

But, see that text below the little photo? Yup, still a "Nissan Junkie" at heart. =)

I read about a cartech turbocharged 240SX in a magazine (turbo mag?, don't recall) back in 1989. I also didn't like my other choices at the time as much when I drove them (Eclipse GSX, MX6 turbo). I finally made good on my promise to turbocharge my car a couple years ago.

I also always wanted a coupe. So I bought one recently too.

One's my project car (always being improved, and too obnoxious for daily driving). The other's my daily driver.

I used to drive a Hachi Coupe (AE86 Corolla GTS) during my early highschool days, and loved FR configuration. Sold it (and regreted that) because I wanted a newer car, but never knew they would be so popular now.

Bought a 92 Prelude 4WS because I was in love with the way it looked. Still have it to this day, and invested a crapload of money into it (approx $15k CAD). The car is soon going to my little sister because she just wants it. The car still runs strong with the new motor, and handles like a dream, but I wanted more.

Picked up a 98 240SX LE less than a week ago. I bought it primarly because it's kind of reminescent of the Prelude, except for it's FR configuration which I fell in love with way back. Independant suspension, 50/50 weight, and the whole nine yards. There's still a lot of potential for this car, given that more Japanese products are slowly immerging to North American shores. In time, I hope to turbocharge the KA with a base system, and hopefully swap in a SR20 in the future. For the time being, I'll work on the suspension.

Brand new my car would have cost £20,000 over here. It's now 5 years old and it cost me £5,800 five months ago. That is some serious depreciation! :o Added to that it looks like sex on wheels and goes like a cat with its ass on fire!!! Nuff said!
