I was looking under my hood the other day and if I relocate the battery (i'm doing this regaurdless) there seems to be plenty of room for a chevy 350 under there. The steering linkage seems workable and with rearwheel drive I could just have a new driveshaft made. The only other thing I see is possible moddifying the transmission hump.

The earlier Q45 engines would be ALOT cheaper, there has been some talk over at HybridZ.org about doing the Infinity swap. Anyway to answer this guy's question, yes I think it would fit, I have heard of one guy talk about it, why don't you be the "pioneer" in slapping V8's in 240SX's. If it go's well i'll drop my plans of a V8 240Z and try out a 240SX

well Nissan does make V8's and they made an aluminum one for the President limo back in the 80's called the Y44. yop 4400cc displacement. I was actually working on installing one in a 240z back in the late 80's . No parts availible here in the states though and imported stuff was going to be expensive . got the engine dropped it in the car but life took over and the project was shelved never to be resurrected . Oh well different chapter in my life not going to worry about it.
Now with the Q45 engine out there it would be a different thing . times change life goes on.
peaceout

I would go with a LS1. People have put them in RX-7s.

They don't show any pics under the hood... Anyway, yeah I was thinking just a chevy V-8. 4 bolt main, built really good, possible with a supercharger and or NOS. The price would be very comprable to or even lower than building my 4 cylinder. And besides, how many people have a v-8 powered import...

V8 swap:
Nissan V8: your stuck with an auto trans unless there is a manual box somewhere that will bolt up to it.
Ford vs. Chevy V8: The distributor is located on the back of the Chevy motors, so installation space constraints may not allow it to be there (enter the Ford V8, which has it on the front).
I doubt the 240sx is going to be fun to try and get a V8 into, the VG is said to be a huge pain by those that are in the process of putting it in and it's smaller than a V8. The Z car is more of a V8 conversion car because it accepts the V8 without major modification to structural members or the suspension.
Ohh BTW, it probably would be better to go with a carburetor vs. screwing around with wiring and buying/programming $2000 EFI control hardware.

about that 240 w/ the 350 looking disgusting...
who cares? It's a race car. It has one priority...be fast. And from the vid, it looks fairly quick.

yup you are correct sir;) In answer to someone elses question why Nissan V8 well because it was an aluminum engine . Back in the 80's Aluminum american V8's were expensive. Much more than a Y44. Ok here I go down a long abandon road.
Yes I will most likely build another 240Z but I am thinking RB25 In it.

Unless you're building this car to only drag, wouldn't the added weight of a v8 engine severely damage the 240's handling abilities? I would think that the extra weight would throw off the near 50/50 weight distribution in the 240.
Any thoughts?

Try the VH45DE(365hp) or the VH41DE(310hp), both are powerful nissan engine, as it is I will be putting one in a S12, so I guess it should fit. Or if your ready for some insane horse power VQH35DETT out of the R390, 540hp standard, say goodbye to your licence. As for the Gearbox try a Turbo Z32 300zx 5 speed, or if draging try the weaker autobox, but if money is not issue go for a comp box, thats what I'm doing. Laterius.

well, yeah, california specials are pretty popular. a california special is a domestic V8 or V6 in an older Z car, like a 240z, 260z, or 280zx or what not. kits are available with custom mounts and cross members, and they're relatively cheap (cheaper than an sr swap, anyways). you can put anything from a 302 or a 327 or 350 to a big block 502, or the monster bruiser, the 623 stroker. also, people put rb26dett into them. i saw one, a 260z with a totally stock rb26dett that runs very low 11's, this is completely unmodified engine, just dropped into the car.
anyways, on a side note, i do believe that they are called california special because they're old enough to be exempt from emissions laws now. go to http://www.hybridz.org for more info (im pretty sure someone already posted this link)

Your the first person I have ever heard call it a "california special" no offense to you but it sound's so gay. About the RB26 in the 240Z. If it's the guy i'm thinking about, it's not stock he has it slightly tuned (slightly tuned still gives him about 400 HP)

Go for the turboless RB25 (I’m a DCOE style multi-throttle fan);) Plus the sound that will make at 8000rpm will draw the attention of everyone in a 5-block radius.
Something vintage about a strait 6 in a Z car, it just belongs...

The LS1 is better but is going to cost a lot more, it is what is in the new Vettes(except Z06) and the Camaro SS. The LT1 would be a lot cheaper, it was used in C4 Vettes(later versions the early version had L98.)
