I have Evo 8 brake kit but don't have money for 5 lug wheels I already have the hubs though. Why is it that people say you should/need to go 5 lug when you do a big brake conversion on the s13 chassis?

just makes it easier as most big brake kits are made to suit the 5 stud
u can always re-drill the disc rotor to suit your 4 stud
plenty of people over here in Australia do that

You could also call places like Brake Rotors, Brake Pads, Slotted and Drilled Rotors, and Performance Parts :: 88Rotors (http://www.88rotors.com) and racingbrake.com (http://www.racingbrake.com) to make you equivalent 4 lug rotors.

I have evo fronts and sti rears and you use evo rotors or possibly some others but they are remarkably larger than factory and are 5 lug. It would most likely save some head ache just going 5 lug but you may be able to have some evo rotors re-drilled if you want to stay 4 lug. A lot of wheels come in 5 lug also. Good luck with which ever route you take.
