if all you wanna do is eat up supras in the quater get an old sixties or early seventies gass guzzling hotrod. Can get a decent one for a few thousand and have enough money left to make it run 11's.

yeah.... not much can beat a bit of v8 tinkering..... untill you run into a corner. as long as there's no turns you'd be all set!

For only $4000 a 600cc bike could probably take car of most of them. Would need a 'busa to take on the 1000hp+ ones.

bah, no need to bash the domestics. It's all about taste. I for one would prolly be equally at home behind the wheel of a '92 240sx SE and a '70ish Nova SS. Don't knock it 'cause you don't drive it
That said, I'd use a 240sx base car to build on

But yeah i was just saying they are tanks (always make fun of my friend with that just cause they are a little heavier) and ROCKETS ...sorry bout the misunderstanding

a Turbo II FC3S rx7 with a big t04. however, for a project car, a 240z or 260z with a small block chevy could be done for under $4000, get it running 10's for that much easily enough.
for building a 240, you could get one with a blown engine or wrecked drivetrain relatively cheap. theres a guy who sells full clean silvia s13 front clips with body panels and motors for like $3400 or so shipped. i doubt you could get that and a car for under $4000, but close to it for a wrecked 240

It's rumoured that a tuning company over here is building up a 500hp s14 for an u/k customer. Now that will eat a few Supras!!!!

I'm taking a loan for 20-25k probably at the end of this year to build a 500hp+ s13 hatch ... and everyone here is gonna help with the planning, hehe.

Sweet, I see a few improvements that can be made just on that one
I'll be using a sr20det myself with a 2.2 stroker kit from toda racing, 8.5 to 1 compression ratio I'll post my plans sometime this month.

well man, if you're going to spend 25k, why not just do some sort of skyline engine? an rb25det or rb26dett will give alot more power than an sr20 ever will. by the tiem you spend 25k on an rb26dett you could be past 900hp, probably just as far on an rb25det.
or you could just buy a supra TT and get at least 550hp to the wheels. just my opinion.

well for $4000 USD, I would go for either 200sx or 300zx(tt), or a skyline GTS4 coupe turbo(91').

01-08-2002, 06:21 AM
a supra ... whats the fun in that ... hehe
as for the skyline engine ... that huge chunck of iron will mess up the 50/50 weight. If I would do a skyline engine i'd put it in a 300zx ... sorry this is off the topic ... i'll stop posting in this thread

Well nice to see that everyone stayed with in the $4000 limit in there posts Exept for the Roatry Starlet mention NOTHING anyone posted could be done for under $4000. My $4000 Supra beater would probably be a 85' 300ZXT (85's were the lightest and had slightly turbo cooling capabilities then the 84's) Buy one for $1500 (with enough patience you could find a nice one for that cheap) Buy a T3/T4 turbo ($600) Starion Intercooler ($300) piping for it ($50) Homemade K&N Intake ($40, actually free cause I already have it) Custom 3" Exhaust ($200) Electronic Boost Controller ($300, actually free again cause I already have one) All that and I still have $1010 left for a paint job or Rims or something (insurance) That should give you close to if not over 300 HP
EDIT: Just reread origanal post, guess it said BASE car that would serve as the platform to beat Supra's. Well shit that could be anycar, thats no fun

well, i figured as long as the car itself is within $4000.... if you think you can beat a Supra with $4000 you've got your work cut out for ya... maybe some sort of beater with a 200 shot of nitrous.... (of course, you'd need to buy a new car before you refill the bottle).

well I know my buddy Gary stuck a RB25 in a 95 S14. The skyline clip cost him $2500. He put a carbon fiber hood in part to compensate for some of the extra weight. He has since converted the car to a track machine. could you get a RB25 powered car to eat a Supra hmmmmm. You know what ?? There are not that many Supra TT's out there I say leave em be. If your gonna go after something I think it would be fun to eat Porsches seeing as half the guys that drive them have ego's as wide as Sunset blvd on the strip. lol

Thats the point. You could buy just about any old car for $4000 thats a boring question. But make a car that can beat a Supra (or other cars in it's league) for $4000 thats a challenge, besides most Supra drivers can't drive just ask HaloZ

My picks are as follows.
Drag: First gen DSM + bolt on's can run 12's for 4G's.
Circuit: First Gen RX-7 full race beater could be built for under 4G's

Well then.... get any car and run too much nitrous.... you'll have at least one fun run...
Going the domestic route is one way, and even then it's not a very original one.
Getting a Civic and running nitrous would be a Fast and the Furious way of doing things I suppose....
Otherwise, building a reliable 13 or under second car is going to take either a lot of DIY work or a lot of $$$.... $4000 isn't exactly a lot of $$$.
Anyways, if I was forced to do it.... I'd look for an S12 with the VG30E and run a turbo on it (I'm assuming you can just get the turbo mani and turbine from a z31's VG30ET). It'd probably be easier to stick with the engine the car came in... otherwise you're sort of wasting the engine you just bought. With any extra money you should be able to get the engine rebuilt or tuned to an almost new condition, and some junkyard parts shouldn't cost very much.

I'd get a Nissan truck that hasn't been wrecked, redo the internals, put a supercharger on it, 240 suspension, and make it run 10's. Then I'd go toast WRX's.

rb25 wont fuck your weigh dist too badly. move battery to rear and get a fiberglass hood and you're almost there, and you can scrap A/C too (you'd probably have to anyways) and PS, and be there with no problem. the engine only weighs like 50lb more than the KA

Weight distribution means nothing (well, not really...), there are cars with 62/38(ITR) and 41/59(Porsche 911) weight distribution that easily out handle ~50/50(240sx) cars, it is over hyped at best.
Polar moment of inertia is what should be attributed to putting a larger mass upfront, but even then a street car isn't going to handle any different with an RB or an SR.
