There was a thread late last year regarding the fitment of stock style brake lines with Z32/R32 calipers. I just wanted to clarify this issue on the fitment of brake lines, fittings used, etc.

Most brake calipers (Nissan/Sumitomo, Brembo, Stoptech, etc) use 10mm threaded fittings on their calipers. These calipers can be used with banjo style fittings (using crush seals), or a inverted flare (IF) fitting. The only difference between the two is the manufacturer can press in an additional seat/adapter into the caliper so it can be used with a IF fitting. These calipers are designed to be used with either fitting, the choice of fitting is a matter of packaging at the factory.

We had said that the banjo style brake lines can be used with Z32/R32 calipers, which as packaged from Nissan used IF fittings. Our own experience has been that the banjo fittings fit properly with these calipers, but one of our customers reported sealing problems, and others here on zilvia.net reported similar problems, though I do not know if any of them purchased their lines from us. In some cases the banjo fitting does not seal properly because the banjo bolt bottoms out against tapered seat/adapter piece in the caliper, preventing it from crushing the seals properly (especially when re-using old seals which have already been somewhat crushed). One fix is to grind the banjo bolt a little to shorten it so it won't bottom out, or another fix is to remove the seat/adapter from the caliper.

Although this is not too difficult a DIY fix, we do understand that some customers do not feel comfortable with using anything other than the same fitting used on the car which the caliper came from. We want all our customers to be confident of the quality of the products we sell, so we got some custom front lines made with the IF fitting.

Here is a pic of our regular brake line kit:

This is the front lines with the IF fitting instead of the banjo fitting:

Any customer who purchased their brake line kits from us before 1/2004, you can purchase the front brake lines with IF fittings for a nominal cost of $1. Customers who purchase their brake lines from us after 1/2004 can also upgrade their front brake lines at any time for $20.

We have also changed our website so you can order the lines for each axle separately, so you can mix and match the lines you need. We currently do not have rear brake lines with IF fittings, if there is demand for those we will get them made as well...

So which lines would be best for stock brakes or with q45 brake upgrade? Also, can we still get both front and rear lines for $75?

For stock brakes you should get the lines with banjo fittings, I am not sure about the q45 brakes, I would need to see a picture of the fitting end of the caliper or if someone can provide that info?

Not sure if this helps but the q45 calipers from 90-96 uses the stock brake lines.. Are the lines going to be blue or black? What happened to the $75 price...

Our lines now come with a blue translucent cover... translucent so customers can tell its real stainless braided hose underneath :) We sold a few black sets last year because there was a period where the blue hoses were on 2 months backorder...

We had to restructure our prices this year as our business actually lost money last year, if we kept that up we would have to shut down :( $80 for a set of lines is still extremely competitive, plus customers have the option to upgrade their lines in the future for only $20. I don't think anyone else is offering as sweet a deal :)

$80 is definitely an awesome deal. i don't think anyone should really complain. if you want something cheaper, you can always get the ebay ones, hehe. i personally plan on getting a set for myself, since this is the best price i've seen just about anywhere. and yes, the option to upgrade is really awesome.

on another note, having them in black would be sweet, hehe. something to consider ;)
