I have a friend in my class who had a 1991 Coupe. I happened to mention today that I had a 1993 and he never new this before. He has some performance parts from his car that he had ordered or installed but he sold the car quickly and took the parts out and wants to get rid of them.

Most interestingly for myself are a set of pacesetter header(s) that are brand new in the box and all he wants is $50 Canadian for them. I would like to put these on my car in the spring- the price is right. Im going to be needing a new muffler anyhow and i want to redo the whole exhaust anyways so....

On the other hand my dad had a pacesetter cat-back system on his Civic and it rusted out. Twice. Had to be replaced twice. The third time this happened he just ripped it off and replaced it with some other brand. Ive heard nasty things about their headers for cavaliers and neons too. Can i Expect this for the 240?? Does anyone have their header on their car?

Now for the more general header questions I have

I know what they do but im looking at the practical side too. Either way im buying the header, if I want to I will just sell it. However I want to know if there are tidbits of info I DONT know about them- Ive heard they crack easily when you drive in the cold, they tend to be leaky (headers in general) and they make your engine bay get too cold or too hot. As well, whats the noise going to be like...they increase the volume right? Cause my new exhaust system will not be a wide open one-Im going to try and keep it sounding nice without being loud. Do headers really make your mileage better?
Anything else I should know?

OTHER STUFF:
-his car is a 91 coupe, mine a 93 FB, I shouldnt have fitment issues right?

-he has an intake too, just needs to be cleaned...same deal?

-what about a JWT ECU- would it do me any good if his car was auto (im guessing not)

thanks anyone for the help.

I have a hotshot header on my ride, love it to death... to answer you questions.... you've heard that they are leaky and crack, thats more prone to V8s... my dad had a camaro with a set and had to replace the gaskets every once in a while... however, i had a pacesetter header on my toyota 4 cyl for years and years, never had any problems... as for heat, if thats an issue, you can put heat tape around the header, gives a cool race car look as well, lol... for noise, it will be a little louder, but not by much really... should you get it? 50 bucks? hell yes. i dont see why it wouldnt fit... hell if it dosent fit exactly right, make it fit... haha... anyone who has messed with first gen hotshot headers can tell you all about that, lol... pace setter might not have the best rep around, but you will feel a good increase in top end power once you bolt it on. and for 50 bucks you cant go wrong! :p

I bought a set of pacesetter headers about 4 years ago when I didnt know anything about the aftermarket. Worst mistake I've made on the car yet. I worked at a dealership at the time and had a mechanic install them. Never got the thing to seal. 2 cylinders leaked like hell and not to mention the header didn't even extend all the way to my cat. I had to go get a 5in extension welded on at an exhaust shop just so it would bolt to the cat. We tried putting double gaskets of the leaky ports and I even took it to a machince shop to have the flanges flattened and faced. The the thing was so warped they weren't able to take enough material off without making the flanges unsafe. And the mechanic had junked my old exhaust manifold so I had to buy a new one for mucho $$.

Lesson of the month: Don't cheap out on parts!! It will cost less to do it right one time than to half-ass it 3 times. And KEEP STOCK PARTS!!

I wouldn't pay $20 for another one.
just my 2 cents

never had a problem w/ mine, no rust, just a lot of heat in the summertime, more so in traffic though(no header wrap), and for 50 bones, I wouldn't stress it if you don't like it. No like-E, no keep-E.

how necessary is a computer chip to make the best use of these parts assuming I install them?

Cause he has one of them too....
