New guy recommendations?

Hello everyone,
im new to the scene, if you can say im on the scene at all. I currently do not own a vehicle and i am deployed to kuwait, but i have wanted a 240sx ever since i seen one at a car show at the local fairgrounds where i live.

I plan to buy one when i return to the states, but im wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to start as far as a build or buy is concerned. I have driven many different vehicles before and im not concerned about handling something powerful, and i have a very knowledgeable group of friends who work as mechanics mostly, some as a hobby.

I guess my question would be whats the best build for a quick daily driver, reliability being a key factor. Any input is welcome, and sorry if i dropped this in the wrong category.

deployed to kuwait? lucky, ive always loved kuwait when i in/outprocessed there, if i had to do a 240 all over again, id focus mainly on restoring body and all bushings and heavily on suspension before going after power

look for a good condition kouki s14 SE. with AC and PS if you want a comfy daily. use some of that per diem cash to upgrade the looks to make people break their necks and then power later on.

just keep in mind that if you buy a 96+ they will be obdII. if you buy and obdII car and decide to do a motor swap later on, it will be extremely difficult to pass inspection in many counties/states because the obdII won't be valid. I'd strongly consider a 95 and if you like the look of the kouki (97/98 model) then you can just do a conversion for about $2,000-3,000 (including paint).

I have a 97 240sx completely stock automatic kouki in nj if you want one cheapish.

hahaha +1 it all depends on how much money you are willing to spend and how much time you have. 240s are money PITS! Until we know an estimate it is really hard to say what would be a good idea.

im looking to put about 9-10k down for the car and its first upgrades...i wanted to go with visuals first....but some mild upgrades would be nice to get some more out of the engine, wondering what will be the most bang for my buck

but i would def say if i had to choose, i would go with visual upgrades and suspension first to make her well mannered on the road...
