View Full Version : Manual engine backing plate
ok i read drift freak's (i ferget his sn, something like that) and on his list it says you need a manual engine backing plate.
I read on some online sources that you dont need one. I am almost done getting all my parts together but im wondering if i need this or not?
and if anyone has the manual tranny tranny to engine bolts...I need them!!!

yes, you will need that backing plate (it spaces out the tranny, so that the bolt will go all the way in, and not stop short)...for the bolts go to nissan parts and get them, for all of them it was like 15 bucks...not too bad...
or else you can figure out the right sized ones and go to sears hardware or and auto parts store and get the same bolts for half the cost...but make dam sure that they are the right sized bolts :P

It's like $60 or $75 at the dealership. If you don't get that plate, the lower 1/2 of the bellhousing is simply a scoop to pick up road crap, which can accumulate on the seal, throwout bearing, clutch assy. Get that plate.

thanks for the info, do you know the correct term to use when i go to the dealer? or is it just called the manual engine backing plate?
ok another member emailed me cause he had the piece he described it to me like this...
"Do you mean the plate that is behind the flywheel that the tranny bolts
against too (around outer edge). Like a gasket?"
so is that it jeff240sx?

my 5 speed one isnt like that. its much thinner, width wise. more of just a "gasket," not a plate.
o ok so im guessing than that is the right one then...would it be wise to use a old one? i "plan" on getting a engine swap withing another year and i barely drive my car, so is it ok to use a old one?

yeah, an old one would work fine for ya, its what i used, and that is the right plate...
i guess its kinda like a gasket, i mean, its pretty soft metal and bends pretty easily, so yeah its like a big metal gasket...
