View Full Version : KA P/S Pump on SR20 ... SR Tensioner Needed?

I'm fully aware that the KA power steering pump can be transferred to a SR bracket with the SR Pulley. However during searching and reading threads on swapping a KA pump to SR20 bracket it has not stated if you also need to swap the belt tensioners.
The reason I ask is because the SR20 I have does not have powersteering, so I bought the bracket and pulley form a zilvia member and he did not send the tensioner with it. I have my KA power steering tensioner but it seems only 1 bolt will line up...
Do I need to source for a SR tensioner or can I make the KA powersteering tensioner work?
Thank you for you time, much help is appreciated!

You will need the SR tensioner. As well as high pressure side banjo bolt.

Good Deal, That is the same conclusion I was guessing.
I have a Braided line with earl adapters instead of a banjo bolt. So I should be fine in that aspect.
Thanks sir for confirming ! I shall give you 1 beverage of your choice when I make it out to the meet @ sonics. ;)

Do you know how many RIBS the SR20 power steering pulley has?
The pulley he sent me has 2 Ribs and looks identical to my KA power steering pulley...
Shouldn't it have 3 ribs or is it in fact only 2 Ribs ? When I look at the crank pulley on the SR20 for power steering it shows 3 ribs on it..

Depending on the swap you don't need to swap pulleys. However, the SR tensioner is needed.

Right. As far as the tensioner that's on its way now, he found it laying around. But this pulley is identical to my KA so I was curious, if he did it by error or some came that way.
Its a s13 SR20 Blacktop

Thanks Grimace..
So now I have to search for a 3 RIB pulley...

3 ribs. If you check your SR crank pulley you will see the 3 rib pulley that matches it.

Affirmative.
Ive got a 3 ribbed pulley on its way.
Confirmed. You need the : SR power steering 3 Rib Pulley , SR Power steering Bracket, SR power steering Tensioner

Yep, 3 ribs... I checked mine as well. However, I never swapped my KA's pulley for the SR's because there is a significant difference in ODs. Obviously, a smaller pulley means more RPMs and well, I don't need a cavitating steering pump.

u can run the ka pully on the sr it will work
just put belt to one side of ribs
and s14 na sr20de had 2 ribs on it
i kno cause i put a s14 sr20de balancer on my det and it matched the ka belt i had on there
i did it for 3yrs no problems

So JR SS, your running a 3 Rib belt on you 2 rib KA pulley?
To be honest the size of the pulley confused me, the 3 rib powersteering pulley that this guy is sending me looks exactly like the size of my KA pulley only with 3 ribs. But then again when I was looking online at any sr20 p/s pump I could find, I found it had a smaller looking pulley.
Such as the one in that link posted:

Guess I will have to wait until I get this pulley to say 100%

While researching I came across a couple of people who stated the same thing about running the KA pulley on SR, but some didnt have the success of keeping belts (they snapped belts alot) and some said it was offset a little bit or didnt line up properly. Not sure why or how, but I guess anything is possible .

Yes, I was/am running the 3/2 combo. I bought a 3 rib belt and cut one rib off. Ran it like that for 3years without a problem. Car is currently under the knife, but I plan on running it like that again.

So I finally got around to doing the pump and yet another road block.
I purchased a SR20 Bracket, SR20 tensioner bracket and SR20 3-RIB Pulley . Put everything together on the KA Pump and the tensioner bracket is not even close to the black bracket on the pump.
What am I missing? Last thing I could think would be the black bracket on the pump itself, correct?

That bracket on the pump is installed incorrectly.

The bracket on the pump needs to be swapped out for the SRs. KA pump, SR bracket, SR tensioner.

anndddd bumping an old thread, where in the heck do you get the banjo bolt pressure fitting I mean is there anywhere out there to source that thing besides off of a new sr pump? Any cross referenced part se-r anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have a ps pump with no pressure regulator and I'm a sitting duck!
