View Full Version : Why does my car smell like gasoline?
ok abotu a month ago i changed my fuel pump and used the old rubber o ring. and the o ring was stretched out so i guess its not quite sealing all the spaces in. could it be because of my fuel pump? and the smell is really strong too!!

Checked your injectors lately? I just had to change one on my 89, and sometime this week I need to swap out my friend's on his 90. Check for stains or pooled up fuel on you intake manifold.

i jsut cut a section out of the o ring then sealed the cut with silicone
your charcoal canister might be clogged or unhooked this can also cause a fuel smell
I have a similar problem. I am begining to think its a 240 thing. lol I have searched and searched for it. Mine comes from the rear of the car but its not there all the time. dont seem to make a difference how much gas is in the tank either. If I ever find mine I'll pass it on for FYI. Good luck
yea i noticed it from the rear first, but then im starting to think its from the front also cause when ever i let air in throught the ac/heater vents i can smell it....
also while i changed the fule pump i also changed the fuel filter, can this also be the problem?

not unless there is a leak at the filter
and also seems like my gas mileage is gonig down too

:D
Gas not making it to the combustion chamber doesn't help gas milage.
Have you popped the hood and looked/smelled around the fuel filter and injector rail for leaks yet?

check the hoses for leakage... thats what the problem was with mine, one hose was dry rotted... replaced them all and fixed the problem, took a while to rid the smell but its gone now.
