I just fried my KA Tranny off a 97. Does it matter if I get the same year tranny or any DOHC will work???

There's no real difference between the new tranny and trannys from the 95-96, etc...
All the KA24DE's use the same tranny. Go to a local junk yard, I'm sure they'll have trannys from the 95-96, 97-98, and a $hit load of 1st gens...240's aren't strangerz to da yards...
One here in Chicago is charging only $125.00...

Yah it sucks...my clutch went out last wk. Changed the clutch and found some shavings in my fluid. Crossed my fingers its just wear and tear. Run the car, had no 5th and reverse. Turns out theres more chunks in the tranny cuz all of a sudden I lost 1st and 2nd too. :smash:

I killed my S14 tranny too. Doing a little research I found that the part numbers for the ACT clutch kits are the same for all the years, EXCEPT for the release bearing. 91-94 has a different part # for the release bearing only. So I would say try and find an S14 tranny, or a KA24E tranny.
My brother has the tranny left over from his SR swap and he had an 89 s13. I think it should fit my S14, and I am even going to order the S14 clutch kit just in case something doesn't fit and I won't be stuck with a clutch for a 24e. Good luck.

Oh i already know the SOHC tranny wont work. Release bearings are only different for the 95s but 96 and up went back to the same bearings as the 91-94s. But yah the biggest thing im not sure bout is the sensors and plugs. Im almost sure that any DOHC Tranny from 91-98 will work, jes not the plugs and sensors (dunno if OBD-2 crap got anything to do with it). Oh yah...Crank Angle sensor....where and what the heck is it???

Damn. So you know that it won't work? Oh well. I will just have to go find one then.
So what doesn't work about it?

From what I remember...95s have a different throw-out bearing...thats it. If I can find a 95 tranny, imma jes hit up the dealer and get a 95 throw-out bearing to work with my 97. But yah finding a 5 speed tranny in the bay area is a bitch!!!!

nah jes DOHC throwout bearings. Basically all DOHC from 91-98 with the exception of 95. Somehow nissan changed the throwout bearing just for that year. 89-90 are SOHC and wont work with a DOHC KA engine.

Well I went ahead and tried the SOHC tranny and it works fine. There is one sensor at the top of the bell housing that doesn't work, but everything is running fine. As far as I can tell anyway. I am sure that sensor is important, but this transmission is a quick and temporary fix untill I get an SR, wich is looking to be pretty soon. Good luck.
