yeah i am from the bay area, and recently i have had to have my car fixed and i am qpalled at the service and teh mechanics around here they try to rip you off, and dont know shit about anything, so my question is, where are the good mechanics that care particularly japanese car secialists? i know of blacktraxx whoa re good and everything but they mainly just do performance modding, not repair leaks, alignment, etc. someone needs to open up a good shop, or bettter yet, amuse, esprit, yashio, etc. autobacs need to come up to the san francisco bay are!!

im just saying, but yeah, what i mean is, do u guys get good service from your mechanics or do they seem like they bullshit, or dont really care about what they are doing. if u guys happen to know of a good mechanic who actually cares about what he does and takes the time to actually help his customers let me know, i cant find a good mechanic anywhere

Become your own mechanic. You cannot depend on many for much, including but not limited to mechanics. Use them only for things that you know can be done one way and if done incorrectly, you'll know. Somethings like alignment, A/C servicing, painting (bodyshop technicians), etc.

if you need a mechanic, id suggest going to somewhere there is an oriental community, more then likely they would know what your car is...

yeah i mean i really want to be my own mechanic and i've come a long way this last year, i knew NOTHING about cars when i got mine 2 years ago. but iread and used these forums and started doing more and more complicated things, but there are somethigns like the alignment issue that when i bring to a shop i dont know if i am getting ripped off or not, cuz in my other post i got tires put on and balanced last week and had an alignment the other day but my steering wheel still rattles at high speeds and i cant find out why!!! but yeah how else will i learn unless i have a good mechanic i can talk to when i have stuff done. also for example i need my engine rear oil seal changed and i cant do that by myself..

so you guys are telling me u do ALL work by yourselves?? u have never gone to a mechanic or have a good mechanic u return to???!?!

i thought about this a bit today.. about how much money i've saved by having my own tools and doing my own work.... i bet i've saved WELL over $3000 in labor.
That, and I've probably done $5000 worth of labor to friend's cars..
It's nice to save money by spending some of your time. I mainly just like to know it's been done right.

Yes.

I'm going to Korea town to get my Japanese car fixed.

Why would mechianics in an *oriental* community know what a 240 is from any other car/mechanic in say a *white* or *black* neighborhood?

Sure, I understand some garages specialize in certain manufactuers, but thats not to say you should suggest going to a *oriental* community to find a mechanic just because a car was made in some country right next to or in it.

I have a mechanic friend in Canoga park, he just happens to be Japanese, but there are absolutely NO Japanese people in the San Fernando Valley... I don't goto him at all (I do all my shit myself), but its nice to know he is there and he won't screw me over in pricing.

That's the most ignorant thing i heard in weeks. I just had this same talk with my cousin's friend. Saying that if you're asian you'll eat rice more then one time a day. And the same with Mexican people with tortillas. That's what he said and i just blew up on him. (fucken foreigners!!!! New Zealand peeps)

What i said:
You're a fucken moron for saying that. Why cause One you're basicly making a racist comment, Two you're saying i eat fucken rice more then once .. which i dont dumbshit !!!!.... (just one time a day)

With the ORIENTAL mechanics.. that's just fucken stupid. Why cause that's where the motor CAME from and they would know the difference between sr or ka ???.. they'd be just like any Other mechanics trying you rip you off. And probably do something stupid and just fuck it up.

JUST Pick up a daily driver and Learn. Get a service manual .. read and ask other people on the forum for some advice and just bust. That's why we have message boards for INFO.

As for the word ORIENTAL .. that's just fucken stupid ass word for ignorant people. WHY not ASIAN .. why ORIENTAL cause that's where i came from. Another ignorant word from the past.

peace

I think you should maybe see if someone on the Zilvia board is in your area and can come by and help you out. That way you will save money and learn something. My dad used to be a professional mechanic and he always helps me out, and tells me that he's not going to just do it for me I am going to learn how to do it, because he won't always be around and then someday I can pass the knowledge on.

Made In Japan in Campbell actually does good work...
i've never taken my car there because i either do my own work by myself, or i have friends who help out..
my brother used to take his Prelude, Infinity G20, QX4, 300zx to Made In Japan and never had a problem with them or their pricing...

definitely not true. so many shops in cities where there are pretty much NO "oriental" people do great work on japanese vehicles. anyways, i do my own mechanical work. saves a lot of money.

I've done all my own work on my old 240. Alignment, engine work, basically anything that broke I fixed or replaced. If I had a clean place to paint I would have done that myself aswell. Like somethingmikew said get yourself a factory service manual and go at it, also wouldn't hurt to take a few auto classes.
