I am getting 17" 5Zigen fn01r-c rims for the 240sx, nice and cheap, also very light. I have a problem though, I don't know how to read the numbers when talking about rims. What is offset and why does it matter? What is the best offset to have? I just need to know what I need to ask for when I get these rims. I am going to lower the 240 with springs, getting a body kit, so what is the best size width wise etc. Thanks in advance for your help. I know that I am going to get flamed to heck for asking such a stupid question but I just don't know about this stuff yet heh.

for 17s....get 17x9s and get something with bout...25mm offset or lower and you wont regret it. FOr the tire...thats gonna be up to you...you can stagger it or keep it the same all around. You might wanna check the faq section in the 240sx.org forum under FAQs to see what size tires would be perfect for it for the diameter.

Here is a great explanation of wheel offset.
Tirerack (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/offset.htm)
They have other articles that cover the different aspects of wheel manufacturing as well.
