View Full Version : Battery Still Draining

Ok so after a new alternator and battery things still arn't working out. I did a drain test with the car off with a test light, and pulled the dome light fuse because it was causing the test light to light up. I also installed a battery kill switch to the positive.

I drove the car for about 30 minutes and shut it off, and about 4 hours later I tried to start it up again and it worked!

HOWEVER

Car's dead this morning (after sitting for roughly 10 hours) and I can't figure out why. I cut the positive with the kill switch last night, and the dome light fuse is still out of the car, so nothing should be draining the battery.

Battery is reading 12.31 volts, but after the fuel pump comes on its only about 11.0 volts making starting the car impossible.

Do I need to cut the negative out as well?

Maybe the kill switch is broke? I don't know - that's the only thing I can think of.

Just confirmed the kill switch as working. =(

My battery load tester says the battery is weak under load. I guess I gotta get it recharged.

I had a similar problem with my 89 hatch. It turns out that the hatch wasn't closing enough so the hatch light was staying on all night and was killing my battery. Good Luck with your problem.

you might have a shorted wire somewhere.

did you ever check the way I said to in your last post ( I think that was you... )
anyway take a multimeter (dmm, 19 bucks from walmart) and put it in series between battery and negative battery terminal, start pulling fuses till the draw disappears. When it does, you pulled the fuse for the circuit that is causing you problems.

Excellent advice, exactly what I was going to say.

When diagnosing electrical gremlins, you have to go step by step.
