Alright, Well before I talked to this guy that I know whos got a realy built talon, I was settled on a greddy tube and fin setup. But I know this guy who I though had a lot of knowlede, because he looks past all the hype and really gets in to the physics of the produc and reasearches for hours. Well ive about lost all respect for him as he told me that an fmic is for looks and not performance, he told me to keep my stock sidemount for the sr, But I know that if I boost above 7 lbs that i will want a fmic to keep my engine runnin, but he said to go bar and plate and a few other people have said the same thing. Is the greddy a real nice one. Im looking at the one thats like 650 on ebay with pipes for the s13, i forget which one it is but its always on ebay. I also have a question about what is a sufficient CFM on bar and plate. The last question is about pressure loss, I see the ones on ebay say .2 but they say they give it 15 pounds, now is this 15 pound of boost or 15 pound total. atmospheric is 14.8 or something so if its loosin .2 thats losin every bit of boost theyr givin it, someone please fill me in, caues i know how people on ebay can be decieving. Thanks.

Bar and plate is better. The one on ebay you are probably talking about is the Hybrid intercooler. I have heard the S13 kit is perfect and works very good. There was a thread a few days ago about this. Search for Hybrid intercooler.

An intercooler is nice, but only if it is properly built. My close friend runs a Merkur with about 20psi of boost with no intercooler. Runs straight from the turbo to the intake runners. Granted, he's running about 75-100 shot direct-port NX nitrous which cools the intake charge significantly, but he still runs 12.5's in the 1/4.

A cheap intercooler or a cheaply made intercooler can have too much pressure drop and flow resistance to be of any use.

A good front-mount (or even a sidemount, honestly) will do a great job. Front mounts are for looks, yes, but the do have a function. To get a nice large intercooler that won't hinder flow too much, you need space to mount it. And why not mount it where it gets fresh air?

first off if its on ebay I wouldn't trust it too much, I mean as far as the specs and such. tube and fin and bar and plate is really just a matter of taste, both sides have slight advantages/disadvantages, bar and plate being that it (usually) flows to the radiator better and isn't affected as much by rocks and stone chips, but tube and fin can (usually) cool more efficiently. of course since all are designed differently this can go either way. which is why I say... the type doesn't matter as much as the quality/consturction.

Before I bought my HKS Type-S fmic (which I would highly recommend you buy) I did a lot of research on the different types of intercoolers there are. While I was researching I ran across several specs that said the Greddy intercooler gets heat-soaked easily (air entering and exiting the intercooler is the same temp.). Plus the kit is only $650 - really cheap when compared to the other kits out there (you pay for what you get). You can get the type-s kit (fin style) from phase2motortrend.com for $952 (can handle up to 500hp). Everything in the kit fits perfectly - it is the only fmic I have ever installed and I had absolutely no problems putting the kit on even w/ the japanese instructions.
