Here's a write up of my build.

I purchased the car in Fresno, CA from an old lady who kept it in immaculate condition. Rust free! It was automatic with reupholstered leather interior. Everything worked as it should have... Except... the tailights. At night you could see the lights that showed i was there but you couldnt tell when I was braking(from the lights) The car was completely stock with no speakers or anything but it ran smooth and I hadn't found a 240sx like it in my life. I knew that If i had only bought a 350z I woulda spent ALOT less $. I probably would have been content but I didnt like the handling of the Z and i had already fell in love so here goes.

The day I bought it.

First things First were the rims. My stock tires started going bald very quickly and before i knew it it became near impossible not to drift. so i needed new tires. And with new tires comes new rims. ( Forgive me but before I got into building the car I knew next to nothing about them.) So I bought some 235x25xr18 tires on 7.5 +40 width wheels. Mistake but they will be replaced with some mb battles shortly.
Then I was going mad because there was no music at all playing. So I bought 2 10inch subs and a 1000watt Hertz Amp. (components also coming later. Had a custom box made for the car and I asked them to make some ridiculous base. They did so. Had the whole car wrapped in Foam Noise insulation so it doesn't bug the cars nearby.

I got some window tint after that 5% back and back rears. 35% on sides and 50% on the windshield. Professionally done.

Then shit hit the bricks. My brakes started squeaking and my engine started overheating. (about six months after i had bought the car) and at that time i had no money so i kept letting the brakes squeak thinking I'd only have to replace the brakepads. Anyways my rear balljoint and a front suspension piece had busted forcing pressure on the rotor itself and it had thrown all of the brakes out of whack. Anyways dude robbed me of $1,300 for a few stock parts. I had asked if he would do a z32 upgrade and he said he wouldn't due to liability reasons and that California didnt allow any performance modification by law. Wasn't that some bull. (he did get them all working again) But that was the moment I was like dang... I gotta learn how to do everything myself.
2 weeks later...
So the overheating got worse, black smoke started spewing everywhere. I had to stop 2-3 times a day to make sure my car was ok and I became less and less dependent upon my daily. I knew It was the headgasket. I was thinking. Hmmm. Spend $1K having a shop fix it OR... spend 2K and buy a modded out engine. So craigslist found my answer and I bought an SR20 from a guy names Lalo.
I was freaking excited!!! I had told the Lalo I had no spot to do the swap, and that I knew next to nothing about cars so he'd have to walk me through it and I'd give him his full asking price if I could do the swap at his house. He said 12 yr olds did this swap in their sleep so we proceeded.

PS... for anybody wondering. The SR has a top mount t3/t4, HKS wastegate, greddy oil relocation kit, Greddy Oil Catch can, stage 2 unknown clutch, 550cc injectors, Isis Oil Pan, z32 MAF, Koyo Radiator, adjustable FPR, and a custom screamer pipe. Pushes 350hp. Replaced a broken Tomei fuel pump with a walbro Fuel pump.

Bought an ebay inter-cooler setup for a few hundred dollars. Lalo and I went to the pick in pull A LOT to find 5 speed swap parts. Bought the clutchline, boot, shift assmbly, slave cylinder, and the clutch pedal.

Bought a fake HKS blowoff valve.

Drove to San fransisco Bought a greddy 3" Downpipe and an s13 manual driveshaft for $100 ( best deal ever) and drove to the burb of SF and bought a 2 way carbonetics LSD for $600 already installed in the pumpkin. (That was a great day ;)
Cleaned up the bay a bit.

Then I bought a Megan type 2 exhaust from Enjuku and a circuit sports test pipe.

Rerouted the Harness. The FMIC required me to either completely remove the front bumper or cut it and because if i hit a pole, I'd still like my sr to be protected I took out a little of the bumper.

Everything came together... until we turned the key.

It didnt start...

I met a local thai guy who specialized in Nissans and he got my car... atleast ... running. Which to me was amazing. Their was a lot of things wrong with it. It ran WAY to rich. Like rich enough to place you're kid behind the tailpipe and he'll have black gasoline carbons all over him. Seriously. It died whenever I let off the gas. There was more power in a prius then their was in my car and the battery wasnt powerful enough to crank the engine from the trunk. It was appearent that it needed a new tune. Sooooo... To keep myself positive, I bought a new optima battery that had enough cranking amps to reach the front. I bought a boost guage, a manual boost controller and Lalo wanted to sell me his isis control arms so I bought those and installed them.

The car at that point ran but not really. I had some local 240guys stop by the house.

Had to buy a new Engine harreness to make it wasn't a wiring issue. I bought some new 550cc injectors. I found one of them was broke. Checked the coil packs. New Plugs. Bought 2 MAFS. Trouble still remained... I bought a new Z32 Tokiko BMC, 2x2 Ebrake Cables, Alluminum Calipers for the front and the rear, steel brake lines and new rotors. Shortly after I bought the e-brake assembly and the e-brake conversion brackets. I didnt get to install those parts for a while though.

(Really good story but feel free to skip this part)
My job had me move to Chicago, and again, I didnt have much money to work on the car. I had spent about a thousand dollars at a shop, i wont name their name here, for them to try to help me with no results and I was pissed. So I moved back home to Minnesota. I was forced to leave my baby in Chicago. ;.( 3 months later I got the money and had the plan of getting my car back. So I bought a tune from R.S. Enthalpy. they shipped my ecu back to me. I bought a plane ticket and I had enough money for gas to get back home. LOL. I did so. I found somebody had stolen both of my rear rotors and the right ebrake shield(needed to house the ebrake) I was pissed so i left the very next morning. I got half way across chicago and my car died, my phone died, my ciggarette light wasnt working to charge my phone and I had already used half a tank getting halfway across chicago. Not only that but my car wouldnt go any faster than 55mph. An offense in Chicago punishable by shooting. So I stayed in the parking lot waited for a jump for a few hours. Was able to make it to North Chicago near the shop and I bought new sparks. Knew this was gonna be a long drive but I didnt care because I was determined I had already spent $120 in gas! My car increasingly became less responsive as the oil pressure dropped. 4 pushes up hills and ANOTHER $120 in gas later... I had made it into wisconsin. I was more determined than anybody and was not gonna leave my car stranded!!! Then something in the trunk blew up started hissing. My eyes started watering and I started coughing violently. I found out my battery blew up. Because it was an optima it could still hold it's charge and power up the car but my father told me on the phone that if a spark hit that battery juice my car and I could blow up. He suggested i leave the car there or have it towed back to Chicago. I wasnt giving up. $60 of gas and a few more pushes later I my car wouldnt go any faster than 30mph in any gear my oil pressure moved to around 12PSI... there was a semi for miles honking at me telling me to pull over and probably 3 or 4 miles(construction limited it to 1 lane) of traffic behind me. Somehow i made it to wisconsin dell With like $40 left in my pocket i bought some oil cuz i figured i had probably lost some. A stranger let me stay in her house for the night, Let me take a shower and gave me some food. It was very nice. the next morning the car wouldnt move so I stayed at a gas station for 9 hours and Idad drive down to where I was at. My dad suggested we rent a storage unit and come back a month or two later because all the towing fees were like 5-6 hundred. I called all my friends with trucks. Couldnt do anything. I facebooked for help lol. Asked probably a hundred people if anytone had a AAA premium membership that wouldnt mind me using their free tow. (it would get me to the twin Cities) Found a few but found out they only had regular membership. Signed up for premium myself said it would be a few days before it took effect on my account. Instead, I found the solution in uhaul. It took $350 but i got it back. woohooo good Story. Perseversance is everything.

Found a new job Bought some Megan Coils and some PBM 30MM Spacers.

I should also mention that when i put these on I had a very good friend of mine and old owner of Primo Performance Jesse Hewitt work on it a little bit and he worked magic on the car! I could finally feel the turbo spool like a ferocious bull trying to attack somebody! :hsdance: That was awesome. The tune just isnt right still

I then bought a new Capacitor, replaced the optima battery, purchased a new fuseholder, distro block, and wire, and rewired the trunk of the car to fix the electrical issues (what blew up the last battery.) I vacuumed out the trunk. Bought a license plate relocation kit, some cupholders, and an A/C system.

Over the past few days, I just bought an AEM EMS and a ZT2 Wideband w/ LCD, a boost sensor and an oil pressure sensor. I'm gonna get it tuned the right way... finally, and I'll be able to enjoy her as a daily and on the track once again. More pics to come guys!!!

UPDATE! 9/29/12

Ok, after many married days of cheating on sylvia, I'm back to spending time/money on her. My wife and i moved back to MN so I can spend more quality time with the car. My tien spanner wrench came in the mail a few days ago so I can finally adjust the suspension. Followed by a failed attempt at raising the rear coils.(They were rubbing the tires) I adjusted the rear coils to the same heighth and measured everything just to raise the right side (Problem wheel) only about an inch but irronically, the left side ended up lower than before?... :/ Weird. Anyways, BMC setup turned out good and it's a good feeling to have all the brake modifications done.

Will be getting a new clutch and flywheel very shortly to fix the slippage. Running time should be before Christmas!!!!!!! I want to compete in the spring in some tournaments and just practice practice practice. Will show pics and include details soon. Tomorrow I'm gonna try to get the ac hooked up. No idea what custom lines are gonna need fixed, but having it hooked up will at least give me an idea of what I'm gonna do. and I think i'm gonna bore out the banjo bolt to get the power steering hooked up. Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks guys! Im gonna be tubing the frame eventually and getting all the paint stripped down and professionally painted all at once so the engine bay paint is only temporary ;)

Dude whats up! Remember a long ass time ago when two people came to your house in the black S14 to buy your stock S13 exhaust? That's me haha, hopefully you remember. White tall guy.

Had a S14.5 conversion on it...you like shit your pants over it. (who knows why haha.)


And in your picture with jakes coupe and the white hatch, thats my friend Greg. His old SR hatch. He painted that thing with an electric HVLP and tractor paint and it did NOT look as good as it looks in that picture haha!

UPDATE - 3/1/2013

Ok, been awhile since I last updated everything.

I'll start with the little things and gradually make them more interesting. I got a job at Jiffy lube for a little while and my boss who rebuilds engines in his spare time has had issues in the past with Royal Purple so I was thinking of changing to a Mobile one synthetic instead. Most likely he'll be working on the car very shortly and help solve any issues.

Picked up some fresh oil, oem nissan filter, lucas oil stabilizer and fuel system cleaner, Some OEM 370cc injectors for testing, a Nissan Datascan unit to test and closely watch the old Tuned ECU(not the AEM standalone)

I found a very tiny hole in the A/N Lines in the Oil Filter Relocation kit so I bought some new Lines(Black) along with some other useful Items. A new Oil Pump and s14 Oil filter pickup(Better design than the s13's pickup, Some ARP Headstuds, a Cometic Headgasket, An OEM front main seal and rear main seal, A clean O2 sensor, a New Alarm Remote (Old one was crushed in my pocket), and a stage 3 Spec Clutch and flywheel.

Oh I almost forgot. I got a Tial Fuel pressure gauge to make sure that the fuel pressure is correct, as well and a GM 3bar Map sensor (for Boost Pressure for the AEM unit)

Update3/30/13: Will be moving to SOCAL in about 2 weeks with my wife.
Nothing has been installed yet. I've been waiting for the right person to install/ get my car running, as I dont want to tamper with things too much at this point. I've got an old friend in Fresno who will be helping me do ALOT of work to her and get her running Possibly to the extent of rebuilding the motor. Anyways. I ordered some pretty baller parts the'll be coming in the mail pretty shortly here. I dont want to just post pics of what they look like until I get them cuz the pics i find on the internet make my build thread look less interesting imo. LOL. I will update with pictures pretty soon tho.

I've been looking for years foran s13.4 valvecover or to make my own. I found one for sale here already welded A/N Fitting. It will be at my house within the next week or two.

Got some SR Power steering lines to convert the KA hardlines that I have installed now. We'll see how they fit.

Also pre-ordered some Catano 5lug Front and rear hubs. As i've looked at doing since this thread was created I wanna get either some te37's or some MB battles so I'm getting ready to be getting those. I'll be selling my rims/tires and PBM spacers so if anybody's interested pm me and i'll get rid of those when I get the new wheels/tires.

NEAR FUTURE PLANS: Get the car running of course. Tune the AEM EMS. Custom oil breather tank, PBM knuckles, Having my man in Cali Weld an 8-10pt roll cage. Tub out the wheel wells. Tube frame the front end/crash bar/radiator and headlight support. Getting the entire chassis painted. Get the new 180sx ROcketbunny kit and paint the car shortly after that. It'll be a very long, expensive and extremely exciting process so I hope you guys get inspired/keep watching and shoot me your ideas/opinions. PICS updated soon.

Good update. BTW, if the guy in Fresno will be using his garage, make sure nobody see's you guys work on it. Fresno can get really ghetto in some areas.

Nice looking build, if you happen to do a wire tuck, need to tear back into you loom at some point in the future, may I suggest braided sleeving instead of red corrugated loom. Looks much cleaner.

Yea that braided sleeving looks much better. It's funny you mentioned that. The red wiring harness came with the engine when I bought it and had some wiring issues so rather than pull everything apart, I got another one. The corrugated plastic looked terrible. Lol.

about the spec clutch...i dont know how much its been used in silvias, but in starlet turbos, i ve seen most of them, just break. no matter the power, no matter the use, just break. if i were you i would ask the shop if they have a warranty or something...

The fuck are you talking about? Spec is a pretty well known brand, and stands behind their products. Ive never heard of a spec clutch "just breaking".

i have nothing to gain by badmouthing a brand, im just saying my own experiences. 3 out of 4 broke, and one of them was on a 100hp car, during break-in of the engine... and they were not installed by the same person, in case you were gonna say its the installer's fault...

I have no idea what to say, even with all your issues you kept moving forward but buying way more parts like thats going to help.....#wowyoungpplwannabecoolproblems!

I realize what ur saying but I want to prepare the car for amatuer drift events within the next year and a half or so. I have confidence the car will be running and I'll be financially set to deal with any problems within the next 3-4 months so I'm not really worried about it.

And of course I wanna be cool! That's the whole reason I buy performance parts. :facepalm:

UPDATE: 4/17/2013:Well I made it back to California safely.

The drive out consisted of snow in Minnesota, A blizzard in the mountains of Denver which left my car look like I let Nitro circus borrow the car, and sandstorms and really gusty winds in Socal and hail around Bakersfield.

I got to visit LA for the very first time and check out the college I've been wanting to go to since I was 8. Art Center College of Design in Pasadena for Car design. Such an amazing city and I wish i could've spent more time checking out LA but I'll do that soon. Dropped my car off at my friends. Were gonna be tearing out the engine this weekend and rebuilding parts of it. Main bearings, piston rings and a few other things. He mentioned pulling out the t3/t4 will give it a much better low end spool which would be better for drifting.

I also picked up a Sakura D3 CS RC car. Pretty fun to build.

I was actually very impressed with both of these. Especially the quality on these knuckles. they're solid.

The power steering line that came in(was supposed to be for an SR. It had the same end as the old KA hardlines in the car AND the banjo bolt. I was hoping it would be different but my friend has a different power steering pump we'll be putting in.

And the 5-lug hubs are still out of stock so just waiting on shipping. I got a silvia tattoo as well which I'm waiting on getting filled in.

Update:5/25/13
Well, we finally finished the rebuild. With every rebuild, we ran across a few problems.


The very first problem we found was the aluminum Greddy oil drain pan was stripped by the drain plug. Normally, the solution was a simple retap and oversized plug. The issue we were worried about was that the walls of the lower oil pan were literally just a hair thicker than a quarter and a retap could equal the threads piercing through the sides of the pan and ruing the lower pan. Not being a fan of pansaver drain plugs, (garbage) I decided to cross my fingers and go through with it. Thank God I did. The retap went smoothly, and our first problem was solved. We also hooked up the voltage meter to the MAF sensor and found that the sensor was picking up signal but the return signal had no voltage so the computer want getting any signal back. Went through the harness, found the short and soldiered the wire together. Problem 2 solved.

I got to drive passenger in Ashton Hatton’s car at Tandem or Die V.3. S13 w/ RB20. It was a lot of fun only triggering my obsession even more. With that we were waiting for the Tags from MN to get shipped in, and they finally did. With John mentioning that he would have full confidence in it running perfectly by the drift event (Tandem or Die V.4 (Fresno)) I purchased a drivers pass, and I can honestly say I havn’t been more excited for anything in many years.

The tags came in on the 18th, allowing us to drive it on the streets and test everything out. It still ran badly. First thing we solved was the rich fuel. We replaced the 550cc injectors with some stock 370cc, and it ran smoother and finally spewed regular smoke rather than looking like a diesel truck. 2nd on the list was the ECU. First we tried the RS Enthalpy(will never be buying anything from them ever again). It had a hard time starting up but it idled and ran the best of all 3. Immediately I noticed the difference between the stage 2 clutch, and the Spec stage 3. It engaged nicer, almost smoother but when you wanted it pulled harder than a Mofo. LIKE. Second up was the AEM, just for kicks and Giggles. Didn’t start because it was tuned for a MAP sensor. Mmmm… one day. Lastly, We tried John’s stock Sr ecu. It started up like a dream, but idled very weird. Also, when I applied power, it didn’t do anything. Still, we couldn’t push the car too hard because there was only a tiny bit of break fluid and we had to use the ebrake to stop. Lol.
#Ghettolife. Our solution became VERY CLEAR.

BRING EVERYTHING TO THE BASICS.

A week passed, I got a call from John today with some good news and some bad news…
BAD NEWS: The turbo had an oil leak and wasn’t pushing any boost. He asked me if I wanted him to rebuild it or if I should by another one. With next to no money, he insisted on letting him take it apart and try to replace the bearing with his t4 bearing in his spare. I’m stopping by tomorrow to check everything out.

The GOOD: This past week, he started by replacing the z32 MAF sensor with the stock SR one. Also, the Throttle Position Sensor was junk .(Good thing I bought one a while back ;) ) Fixed those issues, as well as used his stock SR ECU and with the help of NISSAN DATASCAN, it ran perfectly. The brakes were also grinding in the rear because when I had done the conversion myself, there was a bolt on the back of the caliper that John was explaining to me was too tight. John took the rear calipers off, put everything back together, applied some brake cleaner and got the job done right. I love that dude!

As for the turbo, I might just have to get my money back on the 5lug hubs and get an Ebay turbo or find someone to trade a t3/t4 turbo for either my Wide Angle Knuckles, $200 paypal or my Enthalpy ECU.
With a week left until the drift event, it’ll be a tight squeeze. Very anxious. Thanks for reading!

Ohhh, I forgot to mention, I did get a couple freebies since last update. Shoutout to Lalo Pineda for letting my grab these Peak Performance Rocker Arm Stoppers. I was really impressed on the quality of these. They look Georgeous. Also I was given an RC motor, ESC, Servo, receiver, and battery for the Little RC car. :)

Haha 2015 Update!!! lol. Couldn't keep you guys waiting for too long!
Lets see if I can remember. Ohh yeah...
So the Turbo finally blew up, and the Sr20 never ran right, so instead of waste any more bullshit time or money on this bullshit motor, We scrapped it, Onevia_drift (Jake Shaw) built a Ka24de(t) which i inherited just as I moved to Los Angeles and started College. Days before I left my wife divorced me, all my tools were stolen, my front 5 lug hubs and knuckles as well as some other shit. It took awhile for me to get them back. The KAT was completely built, lowered compression, fully blueprinted, w/ almost everything to go turbo including a Nistune ECU. Purchased w/ 5 miles on it.

Of course exhaust fell off so I picked up this kickass one for $35 which i was pulled over for the very next day to get an out of state ticket which later led to my case being dismissed because the judge(in her 50’s) at one point owned a 240Z and said they were cool cars! hahaha. My passenger and I were ok, The car for the most part was fine, (Frame damage forward the tension rod bracket. Steering rack messed up etc.. My neighbors and I who had become really good friends helped me pull everything back close to straight but there were slight separations in small sections of the strut tower tack welds and i knew i was being picky but i wanted to make sure the car would withstand some serious abuse without damaging the integrity of the vehicle So… I decided to Tube Frame the front end!!!!

So I painted it blue to prevent rust and installed the 5 lug hubs and wheels finally:

Before the inevitable, I picked up a 3 row FD Radiator from Slide Garage in Santa Anna as well as a hood, fender, and front bumper from the junkyard.
(Which had to be carried on the roof of my car ;) Annnnd eventually my finances forced me to return back to Fresno, where I got some good seat time!

Where I found a job.. and began piecing everything together. Like the bumper. Rocket Bunny!! FTW :))))))) And a Sweet Vmount intercooler. to complete the setup.

At this point I was still driving without a hood/fender or front bumper because brackets hadn’t yet been welded to support the fenders/bumper/hood. (about 5 months) It was a miracle I wasn’t pulled over! Remember this Is my daily. One day it even rained!

So I picked up the hood latches, the powered by max swirl pot and brought it to Caged in Caged out in Fresno to complete the front end as well as a few other items.
He rounded off the edges, reenforced the strut towers, completed a bunch of unfinished welds, and welded these pretty neat fender mounts!

So as of now I’m still waiting for the tube front end to be completed. Were setting it up V-mount style, doing a bash bar, most likely a cage, and turboing it as we speak!! (Its been almost a year and a half since the KA has been dropped in!) Hate to leave everyone on such a huge cliffhanger but thats all i’ve got as of this moment so… I promise to update this atlas within the next couple years! :)

Mmmm. To each their own. Cars pretty much completely built top to bottom, it drives fantastic, and there not that many more things I can do to make it that much better. Could care less on the looks atm.

I really admire the fabrication work involved in tube fronts, cages, bashbars etc and have wanted to get it done for years. The crash was just the motivation to get all the Fabwork out of the way before making it look pretty. Cool rims and flashy paint jobs are not the heart of this build and neither is retaining a stock car. It's just me. You've got your own tastes, and that's great. But I'd rather build it from the inside out get the bug stuff out of the way and get it looking good later. Slow roll isn't how I do things. I do everything to the fullest.

In February I've got my first track event, so that's pretty exciting at Grange. Got a lot of practice to do.

yeah, that kinda happens when you post a fucking build ONLINE for the entire world to see, you get criticism. and i'm not trying to be a dick, because trust me.. i have no problem saying things.

all i can say is that when you compare the first and last photos, you cant help but cringe at how fucked up things got. even with the crash, if you set aside the time and money to have the car properly repaired at a body shop... maybe you'd be back to square one. if that wasnt even part of your agenda, then fine.

imagine how many cars on the road would be driving around with mad max style tube fronts just because of a fucking bender. gimme a break.

i have no beef with the dude. when you post your projects online, you open yourself up to criticism. and not everyone sees things the same way.

as for the divorce, relationships come and go - no need to get all feelings. in the end, marriage is just a piece of paper. cars and builds are all about the life, time and stories that occur in between. my point was not to kick the dude while down, it was to simply say that maybe, just maybe... he had his priorities mixed up. maybe not. he doesnt need to publicly defend himself, either. but... when people ask why my project has taken over a decade, i can tell you straight up that marriage is one of the big reasons. because in the end, it comes down to balancing work, play, and your responsibilities.

if this IS indeed a community, it would be ill advised to watch people do stupid shit, make mistakes, and *not* speak up.

one thing i will say, if you guys are this passionate about cars... then you should get a job in the industry. dont daily your project car, pickup a spare car (beater) and get a job doing weld, fab, suspension work, mechanic.. you name it. at least you'll channel your energy and make money at the same time. fuckin around in the streets crashing into mountain sides is going to drain you financially and fuck your life up with tickets or worse

Well dude. I'm certainly not "down" it may sound arrogant but with the cost of all the fab work I easily could have purchased 2 240's and had a trio, but I rather get this one nice. The reason someone called u out on the divorce comment was because it was based on a very large assumption. I'm not going to get into it, but she actually helped fund portions of this build and had plans of her own for it. Another words, the finances were never an issue. Probably nearing the end of the year I'll get this all cleaned up, get a body kit and a fresh coat of paint throughout the chassis inside and out but for now, just making sure everything lines up, and is working 100%

So yesterday was spent recirculating the BOV to the intake, doing all the oil line modifications to now run turbo, Putting together all the vaccine sources etc. The oil feed line would not fit the turbo since the turbo is off an airplane so after some time I found where to be getting the adapter. I'll be picking it up tomorrow it's only a few dollars, and is one of the last things needed before this thing gets tuned!!! Booyah!! Ohhh btw it was raining hella hard so the camera could of possibly taken better pictures but we were under a tarp/tent the all night.

So I got the car back from the Fab guy this evening. I found the fitting but need to rig weld it shut and drill a hole 6/100ths of an ince through the weld for a restricter to the turbo.

With nothing else standing in the ways got to cutting the hood, readjusting the seats, and just finishing up a some details before undergoing tuning.

Then got it towed to where it'll be tuned. (Couldn't drive it without the oil feed line adapter not being tigged for restriction and I didn't wanna rebuild a journal bearing turbo. (Had to take bumper off)

Once it arrived he spent hours doublechecking everything on the motor, looking at my mistakes or things I may have overlooked, then he depined my Fuse box for easier access.

Ran the intake pipe further forward to avoid dust, dirt, rain etc from the tire at full lock soaking and clogging the air filter. (Still using the BOV recirculating valve) it's just further down.

Beginning of fixing the wiring clusterfudgsicle. Looked like the consolt cables were crimped for some reason. :/ So new ones need to be soldiered in before we can start tuning the Nistune ECU. Nistune was also really cool as we lost the code for the software and last second, they came through for us and helped us access the software. +1 for Nistune.

Also thanks to David Maye for welding the oil feed line shut as a makeshift oil restricter. Part was near impossible to find locally. A new restricter is gonna be purchased but this will do the job for tuning. Yayaya!!!

I can appreciate the vision and the drive you have to realize your dream. Going v-mount is something I always wanted to do and yours looks pretty solid. It seems like you have good tech and fab support. Don't forget to add ducting to your cooling so it can actually work. I hope the exterior catches up too. I reached a similar stage where my chassis is fairly sound but interest and funding has been cut so my exterior reduces expectations. Good luck and keep it moving.

Alright so prepping for the cars first time on the track we went over every nut and bolt on the car, filling the fluids, resoiliering some wiring, and some other minor things. The oil feed line we welded shut was destroyed when we tried drilling a hole through it, the drill bit broke, so I ended up ordering a new one. The parts store was closed that day but the owner (racing enthusiast himself, showed up at the shop, just so I could pick it up. Eventually we have up(temporarily) on tuning the Nistune ecu because no matter what we did, the ecu didn't seem to respond to the computer. Even restoring the computer and reinstalling (along with redoing all of the maps and checking the voltage wires on the chassis harness to make sure it was receiving signal didn't seem to help, so literally the night before the event, Jake picked up an SAFC to borrow to get the car up and running so we could Hoon. I also picked up a white bunny clutch setup to support the additional stress put on by doubling the cars power. Even at this moment it hasn't been installed but it's in the plans. Seats were installed. Harnesses were borrowed and we found a bunch of tires outside tire shops and were even given sets of decent tread tires by a few shops once I described what we were up to. Truck and trailer bailed out on us last minute so we found a truck and trailer literally the morning before leaving. (Grange motor circuit is about 5 hours away from where I'm living currently) so it was definitely a team effort. Anywho... Here's some more pics of that whole adventure!!!

Tuning was done at the track as we literally had just started the car to make sure the SAFC was readings properly and the car ran. Here's the vid of the first time the motor ever saw boost!!! (First try at starting too)

And I bent the hood backwards in the vent so it was a smooth transition which I thinks looks better and it's not flopping around or in the way and less chance of cutting your hand.

Not even an hour after the tune was dialed in, the BOV somehow got stuck open when the car spun out sucking up dirt directly into the motor causing a knock... Which sucks major balls because these are forged internals. Of course I didn't really know the damage done until it got torn apart so here's was the breakdown of the motor.

So now I'm looking at pretty much rebuilding a different KA from scratch. For a short time I'll probably throw a stock KA in the car until a properly built motor is financed. Kinda sucks but every other piece of the puzzle is finally figured out. Another KA can be transplanted back into the turbo setup for the meantime even if it doesn't last forever, it buys me time!

The balance of the trailer was too rear heavy. This is with the car almost at the front of the trailer. We ended up driving the car onto some planks of wood and 2x4s so that the tube front would clear the trailer and so it could overhand the front edge of the trailer. Once all the weight was on the hitch, there was no issues.

I'm not saying that this is necessarily the way to fix the BOV situation, but as much as it sucks, if only the BOV was set to recirculating, I'd be driving a car right now... It's only a matter of time though. The car's been through worse and its not like its a MAJOR setback...like if the chassis were twisted or anything. Just gotta find another dual cam and put it all back together.

Sr20's lack power, and especially torque, are too fragile and expensive to make the swap worth it, and I'm done with anything regarding SR's. Stupid engines they are. I'm thinking besides the fact that RB's and 1J/2Js probably wouldn't fit with the Vmount setup, RB parts are too hard to find, and need built rather extensively to be reliable, and 1J/2J trannies are too expensive to make the swap worth it.

KA's are capable of holding plenty of power and really impressive amounts of torque with a built bottom end which means less turbo lag. Especially when paired with the Vmount setup. They're cheap, easy to find/source, and besides, I already have the tune, white bunny clutch setup, and exhaust all bolt up now ready to go which means less down time, not to mention, I can use the old motor as a backup and can have pretty much 2 of everything in case any problems arise in the future. KA's are fantastic motors! The only thing I'll ever swap into the car for now on will be a KA or an Ls1 V8 possibly utilizing the Vmount as well if I boost it, but in all reality I don't have really any time or money to begin building one, and I've already been building this car for 7 years. I just wanna get some seat time and become a good driver, and you don't need too much power to do any of that.

The previous KA I just had was gonna be boosted at 22Lbs making 376 to the wheels on E85. I'll be doing a similar setup with the next build but with a twinscroll, a twin plate clutch. S2000 coil on plug, Map setup, And custom plenum. And this time I'll be hot tanking, powder coating, and polishing stuff so it'll atleast look like how it performs. It'll come with time though.

Engine #4 lol:

Drove down to LA to go pick up a stock KA block. Came off a running S14. Head looked extremely clean and crank spun extremely easy. So easy in fact, you could spin it pretty easily with you hands turning the pulley.

Ended up moving yesterday for a new job so I had 3 days to assemble the new KA block and get it running. Here's the engine build.

This gasket was by far the hardest one to pick up. Luckily, with less than a day left I was able to pick it up. (Even the dealership didn't have them)

Then put it in and installed everything. At present moment this car runs ABSOLUTELY FANTASTICALLY! It's such a joy to drive. The power is just wonderful, even though it's not like holy crap levels of power, it's definitely a great balance for the car and a blast to play with!

Meanwhile, Jake pulled apart the old block and took a look at the old rods and Pistons. Pistons obviously are toast, but the rods are more than likely reusable but he's gonna bring them by the machine shop to have them looked at to know for sure!

Very true. Why all the hate though?! :hsdance: Srs are pretty shitty. RS's inability to reach back to me after being as polite as possible with them, after months is why I don't reccomend them to anybody. My car didn't run so I spent a ton of money having "reputable" shops like TFworks and we'll respected local engine builders rebuild that motor. In the meantime I bought more parts. ���� 4.Agreed. I don't use any specific IC ducting. Hasn't needed it honestly. Driven it through traffic in 100+ temps. Taken long trips without any heat soak or overheating and didn't have any issues at Grange either with either motor.

On the track yea. On the road, I had the bumper on. Don't get me wrong, I plan on doing it. This isn't my final setup though. I'' not 100% sure yet but I may have to swap out the intercooler but I'm first gonna make this one work with the new plenum and turbo setup.

I just like to reassure any potential Vmounters that so long as you have a large radiator, swirl pot and proper coolant routing, you shouldn't have any issues with overheating, with or without ducting. Too many people tried talking me out of doing it saying it was gonna overheat and cause heatsoak, etc.

I was playing around with some mockup ducting for size/figment and placement though. Including an IC shroud.

So not a whole lot has happened since the last post. But I did get it back on 4 wheels and got a few new upgrades.

Picked up a custom LHD ATPerformance Oil Catch Can as well as all the AN lines and fittings to replace the Fuel lines, PS lines, and Oil cooler lines and catch can with some weld in bungs to finish the job. Also picked up a braided clutch line to clean up the engine bay. Only other lines that I'm looking forward to replace are the brake lines.
