i know everyone is going to tell me to search, and i have. but i was looking at yokohama AVS es 100's, but i wasn't sure what tire sizes i should get. I'm going to be getting some JIC coilovers, and i don't want the side walls to be gushy and move. i was thinking 225/55/16's, or 225/50/16's, but maybe 215's might be good too. I have kumho 711's 225/55/16's on the rear on my car now, and if i shake the car by hand, i can see the tire sway on itself. please let me know your opinions.

i use 205/55/16 yoko es100 on my 16x7, they work great, they have pretty thick sidewalls, and the lip pertection too

I'd say go with a 50 series side wall. Stiffness is key.

The tire model and brand is as important as size in terms of stiffness and response.

Alright, but do you think 225, is too wide? creating play?

225 is a little wide, I wouldn't go beyond 215 for the sake of sidewall stiffness. 205/50 would fit nicely without an ugly bulge or unneccesary flex... if you're paranoid about it, get some Falken Azenis (the pure sport one, not ST115), they have extremely stiff sidewalls (by us standards)... also keep in mind if the car's going to be driven in rain, you don't want to run those azenis'.
Good luck!

I'm running 225/45/16's right now on my S13 and they're a bit smaller than stock. They also bulge a bit. If I replace them I'll probably go 215/50/16 which would be just a little taller than stock, however the tire choices are very limited (Kuhmo 712's and BFG KDW's as far as what the tire rack stocks).

225/50/16 opnes up a ton of choices and would probaly be a good size on an S14 (or some 205/55's), but will probably be tall on an NA KA. My friend is runing 225/45/17's (roughly the same diamter) with his SR and the effectively taller gearing is welll suited to the powerband, but it would make the Ka pretty slow around town IMO. Highway cruising would probably be comfortable though.
