If you read my previous thread, you know that i'm not doing anything else major to the car, so i'm just going to tinker to make it an overall nicer car. I'm looking for a low beam bulb for the S14 that will emit more light without being blue. Any website or brand/part number refrences are appreciated.

listen to this, hyper whites and ion stuff has a brighter beam. BUT, it puts less light on the road. and the beam is just scattared all over the place. if you are looking for somthing that's bright, do what i'm doing, saving up for HIDS
search for another thread like this.. a few guys answered a lot of questions for me..
basicaly, the two they came down with as the best ones.. were the Hella optilux h4's and some yellow ion something or other... check the other post. i'm sure you'll find your answer there. (i was looking for blue bulbs that were bright.. ,, but they don' exsist)

PIAA Super White.....one of the best ! bright white light.
PIAA = hid look, horrible performance.
Hella Optilux = White appearance, excellent performance.

Alright, Hella Optilux it is, unless someone has a suggestions on a better bulb, H1's for the low beam, but what is it for the high beam?, and what wattage should i be getting for both low and high? i found a pair of H1's for 30 bucks, is this a fair price?

How much does it cost to switch to hella optilux; should they be professionally aimed like HID's?

i don't think they cost any more than the cost of the bulb, it's not an entire headlight conversion, so you aim them just as you would the stock setup

Factory HID kits are REAL expensive.. like up to $1500 I've heard Phillips makes a nice HID kit. not sure of price though

I'm looking to order a Bellof HID kit. They operate in the 8000k range, and give off a nice purple. The K2 6000K give a nice crystal blue look.
I'm not too fond of blue headlights, and the cops in my area aren't very lenient about blue lights because they're designated for snow removal vehicles only. When I lower my car, will it be legal then?
Still being new to 240's. I heard there's a common problem with the S14 headlight housing shorting out or something. Can someone fill me in on this?
regarding philips bulbs, i dont have an experience with them.. but I doubt they are as bright as the optilux. reason being, the hella bulbs are filled with a tiny amount of xenon gas which allow the filament to burn hotter - more light. in addition, they use a quartz glass which also gives you a more white/blue appearance.. without sacrificing light output like most of those piaa coated bulbs.
hid "kit" is too general of a word nowadays. anyone can slap together some shit and put it in a box and call it a kit. the last thing you want is a high voltage system that sucks ballz and will electricute people and fail.
if you want a proper HID kit, visit www.autolamps-online.com - tell nick that mike of clearcorners.com sent you. he's a very reputable HID reseller.
forget the bellof kit, color output has nothing to do with the ballast, it has to do with the bulb. autolamps sells Ultinon bulbs which give off that deep blue appearance many people crave. just remember, those bulbs dont last as long and dont emit as much light. AND, they're more expensive!
philips doesnt make a "kit" because installing HID on a headlight that is designed for halogen is ILLEGAL. However, those philips ballasts have been used in many of those kits being sold.
as for the 97-98 240, i would recommend changing the projector lens if you want to use a lens that is optically designed for HID. otherwise, your cramming all that light through a halogen lens. this will usually result in uneven lighting. we offer projector lens retrofits to those interested.. but its pricey.
