Hi All,

I own a S15 Silvia imported from Japan. I bought it with a bad clutch, first it slipped on the high gears then on all the gears. I ordered a new Ogura 409 for the my Silvia. After some hard time replacing the clutch, I managed to fit every thing as it was and went to start up the engine to verify my work. These are the problems I had immediately on the first start up after the clutch replacement:

Squeaking/rattling noise, apparently coming from the clutch, then it stops after a few seconds.
Squeaking/rattling noise when I press the clutch pedal.
Light smoke coming up from the exhaust manifold tubing ( not from the gaskets )

Can some one please point out to what may be wrong? Also is it ok to use the standard clutch slave cylinder with this new clutch?

Thank you very much guys.

Its a cage type clutch, ORCs are notoriously noisy clutches. Did you change the throw out bearing and carrier? Just use your stock slave, the pressure on the ORC plates are not that hard. Pedal pressure isnt that much more over stock in my opinion. I've had the 409D.

It sounds like its just the type of clutch.

Sound something like this?:

Yes I changed the throw out bearing, used the one that came with it, and also the pilot bush, which was already fitted in the fly wheel. So there is nothing to worry about, not even the grinding noise at start up like the one in the video, because I thought it was the safe starter?

The "shiiiing" noise on start up? Thats normal for ORCs. Its basically the plates rattling on start up.

Thanks for your help. I drove it a little bit yesterday and clutch always makes noise, so I guess there's nothing to worry about. Thing I noticed is the gearbox, 5th and especially 6th gears are making different noise when engaged. I guess its cause of the new clutch right?

Could be a noisy transmission or diff...my last S14, its always noisy when coming down from high RPM, no matter what the gear was.
