Ok, I have been knee deep in the whole RB25DET business, I know all the details and all, but Im still not sure if its worth it. Does anyone know if it is easy to put it up to 350hp? ALso, for all the work I would have to go through sticking the engine in, does the rb really put it out. Im a little concerned being a GTS and not a GTR?

thanks for the help

They can make 450whp and hold it easily on stock internals. Making 350 whp is what I plan on, 350-375. Upgraded turbo, injectors, and way to control it (e-manage, safc, or something like that) and some tuning and you'll be set.

whether its worth it or not is totally up to you...yeah it has more stock power and can handle more on a stock bottom end...but it also costs more, requires a little more work, and is a little heavier...i was torn b/t the rb25 and sr20 for the longest time, but i decided to stick with the SR...just make sure you weigh every option before throwin out the money for either swap...good luck

It is incredibly easy to get that thing up to 350hp. No internals. I would search google. Also if you want a good idea of what is out there for it, EVERYTHING IS. If I could afford it I would gladly get an RB.

Get it for sure, go nuts. You can have a monster.

Its going to come down to money, really. Given the money to do the RB25 swap, I think just about everyone on here would do it compared to the SR20. But, most of us DON'T have the $$$ to spring for the kind of setup. But, it would be the preferred motor. And don't forget, McKinney Motorsports has a $500 mounting kit that makes the RB26DETT just about a straight drop-in and you can keep the twin-turbos.

But, then again, the cost of the engine alone is more than a complete SR swap done and done.

Go for the RB if you can afford it. You will have a beast and a unique driving machine. If you don't want to spend as much money on that type of hobby that is really only worth money to the user and doesn't help the resale on the car much at all, then go for an SR swap. Its a great engine.

I'm hopefully putting down a deposit on an RB clip sometime this week. The engine weighs about 180lb more than the KA. Relocate the battery, get a CF/FRP hood and you should be good. The power will equal out the weight as well.

250hp right off the bat is great, with the breathing cleared up it should be a tad bit high to say the least. I plan on getting only 300-325 to the rear wheels, so the i'm pickin up a FMIC, aftermarket Intake manifold, and of course 3" piping all the way back. After that maybe a fuel upgrade.

The RB does NOT weight 180 more than a KA...recheck the facts.

3rd pic down, it says 720 for the weight of the RB. KA weighs 540.

350hp out of an RB is a cake walk. Its like asking to get 350hp out of a VG30Dett. Intake, exhaust, re-chip the bitch to run double boost *16-18lbs* and voila ATLEAST 350hp.

dont bother trying to figure it out. just get someone to pass it for you illegaly and hope you never get sent to a referree. California is a MOTHERCUNTBICTHASSHOLESLUTWHORE when it comes to automobile laws. it's truly unfair but you gotta deal with it.

with the prices of sr's and rb's... its really in my opinion not worth it for the sr... (im mainly speaking of s14 sr, because if i did sr thats most likely what id do) but even s13 clips are 2500-3200 from a reputable supplier... i got my rb25 clip for 2900 so you do the math. sure it cost a little more to get it in *right* because you need a mount kit and driveshaft, but its an inline 6 2.5l vs a 4 banging 2.0 liter... not putting down the sr, but come on its an easy decision to make :)

at least for me anyway... whatever you do just have fun with it and enjoy the car.

i was thinking of getting a rb26dett for my 1989 240sx. but then i have to relocate the battery and remove the stock oil pan change the hood into something lighter. i remember rb26 is like 400lbs heavier and causing the car to go understeer and smash between a wall is a easy thing for it. my friend has a rb25det that thing is a monster.
but that thing understeer like a bitch in his 240. so i dunno if i might get the rb26dett as well

Uhhh i dunno about that, and i doubt the RB25 causes your friends car to understeer. Once again....

It weighs 180lbs over the KA, and most of the weight is in the tranny. Relocating the battery, getting a lighter hood and suspension tweaks should compensate for any added RB weight. It would help if the driver lost some weight too.

I don't think it weighs much more than a RB25. I'd go for it. If handling is the problem, you can always set up your suspension to accomodate the extra weight. Take out the A/C system even. FRP fenders will also free up weight in the front. Freeing up weight is costly, but so is putting an RB26 in, so why not go all the way.

i wouldnt go rb26 unless i wanted to either enter it in a show, or push over 500 horsepower or else the KA and SR would do and you'd have a better balanced car.

Rb20det Weighs 65lbs More Than The Ka24e, While The Rb25det Weighs 180lbs More Than The Ka24de. They Are Both Worth It In My Opinion..... Put It This Way My Rb20det With Fmic Laid 100ft Burnout Starting In Second, Hell I Can Spin Tires Starting In Third. I Had It Up To 105 In Third Gear At 7800 Rpm, It Will Jump From 2k Rpm To 8k In About A Second, It Will Bury You In The Seat The Whole Time And Never Let Up.

RB's are cool, but to run it you will have to do some weight compensation upfront. yes Mckinny sells a mount kit. Do they sell a down pipe as well? You have to get a custom downpipe made if not.
Ok break it down, if you have time for your car to sit and want to do a install that essentially is not plug and play then go with the RB. My friend gary(not Mckinny) was one of the first people to put a RB25 in a S14 over three years ago. His words to me were if you want to put in a RB be prepared for at least a month of down time on your car or more.
Dropping a SR in is a plug and play situation. You can have to whole thing done within 2 days to 1 week max. Any shop that takes longer is playing games with you.
