What makes you all say the swap is ILLEGAL. Its definitly smog illegal, but i dunno if you can get in trouble for it. I been pulled over many times with my 240 and i have a turbo upgrade on my sr20. I had Auto crime stop me and ask em to pop my hood, i showed them my reciept for the motor and that it was legit and they sent me on my way. And im from Queens NYC, and im 18, so before you people bug out saying its ILLEGAL, make sure your right..

the regulation that says it's illegal to import motors which were not sold in their present form in this country and use them on a public road or highway...they never passed any emissions testing...they never passed any safety regulations from the DOT...there use was never approved...

That brings up another point... sense my clip will be here in March. Do you have to inform your insurance company about the engine swap? The engine is illigal... what if they somehow find out about it? What consequences, if any, do you face?

depending on your insurance they may choose not to cover it in the event of a loss...

to sum up never emission tested by the US gov = smog illegal = non DOT approved for on road use = ILLEGAL. plain and simple its not brain surgery and its not new. Nitrous isnt DOT approved for street use but I bet Isky's GT3 has two bottles. the big ones.

Eric - you said yourself its smog illegal. can you get in trouble for it? yes. ask the guys in California the pains they go through with theirs. but then Cali has alot stricter testing and inspections than most states. is it likely you'll get in trouble for it? not really. you may stumble upon the one cop one day that knows whats what and that its not street legal. and what happens to none street legal cars when they are found on the road by cops? impound.

But the need to go fast lives in my vains, u know...a 240sx would be a great alternative, but 155hp is nothing. thats why i was wondering about the sr swap. am i a rich prick? no. i was born PISS POOR before i worked my way up with my OWN blood and sweat. i lived in germany for a while acquired the car, and it became a part of me, i just felt a need to defend myself. sorry =( personally, ive always liked the 240s.. soo.. ya..
