Hey guys, so I got my Illinois emissions notice in the mail for my 97 240sx, currently SR swapped. Built motor, 1000cc injectors, Haltech ecu, 3" exhaust...Doesn't sound like i'm going to pass right?
I'm sure there are plenty of people getting past smog testing with swaps, and built motors but how?

Its called paying somebody to pass you...which is illegal as fuck and if shops get caught, they lose their license and hefty fines.

They have been cracking down on shops that are illegally passing recently. Your best bet is to re-register the car in a county that does not require emissions testing.

Fully legal exhaust setup(restricting as fuck) and reinstall the charcoal canister...that thing pretty much needs to revert back to stock. Register it where they don't do emissions. Small towns maybe?

Im looking into re-registering the car in a small town maybe to a PO Box if they still do that. The only thing is if I do register it out there, i'd still have to pass this emissions.

No I'm pretty sure that inspection needs to be done in the county it's registered. For that simple reason...some towns require emissions and some don't.

Your sr an S13 or S14? Because I heard of a emission testing place in chicago thats a "DIY" But if you don't have OBO 2 were you can plug a scanner in then again 1st answer re-register. Could also re-register to a family member I mean I know you pay for the fees but atleast you get to drive the car still and all that good stuff. Re-register to a family member I belive you can only do it like once or twice? However that will buy you some more time.

Makes sense. Unfortunately I just found out that Illinois no longer lets you register a vehicle to a PO Box.
So im looking into registering the car to a family house in Wisconsin, an area where there is no testing. Any info on registering your car in another state? Do I need a Wisc drivers licenses to do so?

Sorry I've been busy, but today I was at AutoMass drift event/car show and some friends told me about paying a shop off..sounds like this works. Still looking into registering it out of state. Also keeping my eyes open for a 95 s14. If all else fails im swapping parts.
Thanks for the help guys! Ill try updating when I get some info
its a SR. there is no OBD2. Automatic fail of smog.
Buy $500 worth of parts and provide receipts and you're exempt for a year or two.
I passed in my S13 with some tuning, but they dont dyno cars anymore.

I have over $500 in performance parts if that works lol? You had to test your S13, i thought it was 1995+ for testing.
500 has to be emmissions related, so exhaust or sensors, etc. Maybe a wideband?
And I tested my s13 before they went to 96 and up.
That's why my s14 is 95. Obd1 means I can stick anything in there and they won't care
