I've just joined this forum. I have only owned a Nissan for seven days. It's a 720 pickup. I owned a 1983 200SX about a decade ago. I miss that car. I lent my winter car, a 1991 Honda Civic 4WD Wagon (http://wagon.crx.ca) to my brother to move. I have been driving his 1986 200SX (http://crx.ca/1/steve_car.jpg) for most of the week. The RWD is making my juices flow! I have been keeping an eye out for 240SX prices and am trying to educate myself as to the specifics of the S14 chassis. It seems like my interest has increased more since driving my brother's car. Years ago, when he had a CRX and we went out clubbing, he'd drink like a fish so I'd end up driving it. I liked it so much that I bought the newest CRX (http://wil.crx.ca) I could. My tenth anniversary of ownership is approaching. It just seems like history is repeating itself - partially. I was already interested in the 240SX but that has now been accelerated. I won't be selling any of my vehicles but will add to the crowded driveway with a 240SX sometime, hopefully, in the next two years at most.

Screw the s14, trade your hondas for that s12, put in s13 rear subframe, buy some s13 rear coilovers and some front S12 coilovers and you will have one awesome car, and then drop a CA18DET into that. Do a few lil body things, get some old school mesh, and you will be set

Prepare to search very hard to find a 97-98. It took me 6 months to find my base 96. Have you looked at the fastbacks or old coupes at all?? You could find one for very cheap and spend the extra that you were saving up for parts.
BTW welcome to the board.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the discovery of the 240. Hope you'll find a nice one, good luck.

Welcome to the forum, I like Zeemus' Idea, just don't know how feasable it is. It would be cool, because its sounds like this guy likes old school 200sx's. I agree that the 97-98 models are quite hard to locate and even where I am located a 95+ is impossible to find lol. Just be ready to search and pay quite a bit, and maybe even settle for some rice on it that you will have to take off. 240s are becoming so rare these days, especially nice ones!

Thanks for the welcome guys. Well, the CRX is not going anywhere. I'm too attached to that. With the 2-litre motor I put in it last April, there's no pulling me away from it. I forgive the FWD.
I first looked at 240s around 1991. At the time, I could not afford it. I currently do not have the money for the 97-98s either but likely by the time I locate one, I should be able to swing it. I hope one doesn't show up in a week from now.
As I said, I had an 83 200SX. It and my brother's 86 were fun, however, I want to get something newer and more solidly built. I've seen a few black S14s around here that have mild-to-heavy Silvia conversions on them. They are so sweeeeet!
Someone, about 3 hours from me, got what he believes to be the last 98 sold in Canada. I don't think I shall be so lucky for a find like that up here so I have been keeping a look-out south of the 49th. I don't mind flying one-way and driving back. I have done that twice: when I bought the Nissan 720 last weekend from Edmonton and last January I flew from Seattle to Denver for the wagon. Driving a 97-98 from Texas, for example, would be fun. Afterall, I am a driver. Sometimes the journey is part of the destination.

HAHAH I guess you guys dident know that the whole rear subframe from the S13 bolts right up the the s12.. haha plan doesnt sound so crazy now, only issue is you need aftermarket rear susption to make it work.
gheyest plan ever!
good effor though, it would never work!
I love how you say it would never work, hah funny, quite funny, I thought you knew alot

Dude your nick kicks ass.
Thanks! It's quite suitable with the tuning I do on Hondas. I now have to master this on Nissans. With my eagerness to learn, this should come quite easily.

There's no other "correct" way to spell it. ;)

Zeemus, do we think alike because we're from MN?
I have been thinking about getting the old 200sx for my daily driver, I have been researching to do almost exactly what you said. (s13 subframe, motorswap...)
Have you seen this done?? Could you point me to some websites?

Let me find the site, my buddy had a s12 he was going to put my whole rear subframe from my S13 parts car and put it in his s12, I just think s12s are damn sexy. Ill look into sites and get back to you via this thread

Thanks Zemus.
That would be most exelent, I am looking forward to getting an s12 this spring. It will most likely be the recipient of my current SR20DET later when I move on to bigger things in my current car(RB or VQ with some time and luck.) It will also be my daily driver. I love how they look stock. Boxy is foxxy.

It is a B20B with B16A head. Est 220 bhp and 140 lb·ft torque.

hmmm, just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you use the head out of a gsr or a type r head? i thought those flow better.

If my memory from my Honda days are still good, I believe the B16 head and the B18C5 head is the same exact design except for the internal (cam, valves, etc.) Another different between the B16A and the Type R head is that the R head is mildly ported for better flow IIRC. The B16 head is dirt cheap compares to the other two.

ooops, i think you're rgith. i was thinking the only comparable b16 head was the b16b ctr head (which would also cost an assload)

How are you making 220 bhp with crvtec? My friend just dynoed his and it made 166 whp with a nice amount of torque. He has an intake, header, skunk manifold, larger injectors, chipped ECU, and other stuff but no fuel tuning. Do you have some aggressive cams?
OBD1 Kenobi
02-04-2004, 03:54 AM
B16A/B, B17A, B18C1/5 heads are very similar. The intakes and cams are different. B18C1 GS-Rs of the dual-stage intake type, are expensive. If I had a complete one of those, it would have been best to bore-out that block rather than get a B20B.
I have the B16A stock cams, ITR valve springs, ported-and-polished head with 3-angle valve grind. The 220 bhp is an estimate based on the numbers from a previous swap in someone else's car. That was an 89 Civic hatch. He ran the high 13s. Not sure what numbers I have since I haven't dynoed nor ran it yet. Though, one bonus is that I average 32 mpg with 41 mpg being my record best to date.

i think flybert thinks you're talking about fwhp, you're talking about crank hp correct?
Someone, about 3 hours from me, got what he believes to be the last 98 sold in Canada.
That's me! It was sold new off the lot in Jan 2000. Glad to see you on here! RS represent! :rawk:

I am speaking of FW hp since I haven't dynoed the car yet.
Hey, Cam! Thanks for the welcome. I'm doing my researching whilst saving up for an S14. I would like to have a look at your car one of these days. I am sure I'll have a chance to go up to the OK in a month or two. I expect you've stored it so it won't be driveable until at least March.
