I just swapped in a built motor and am now having a weird idle problem.

when first started in idles fine, maybe a little high but idles and than just dies...like you turned the car off kinda dies...start it back it might try to idle and than either instantly dies or chokes out. Dies at red lights and everything making a real pain to drive...

another possibly related problem is the alternator charges but produces 15= volts and the battery light and brake light are on. if you unhook the alternator plug both lights go out but whether connected or not doesn't really affect the idle at all.

its a built s13 Sr in an S14 with a jwt ecu tuned for 72s and z32 maf. idled and ran great on the motor I pulled out. all accessories were swapped such as throttle body, IACV, and such so they were good unless died during swap like the alternator...lol

think maybe possible wiring was damaged in the swap or any other suggestions... Thanks

Double check the wiring, is the alternator grounded to the chassis? It needs to be. A lot of people forget to do this. 15V at the battery terminals is a bit high (mine charges around 13.9 ~ 14.1V), the alternator may be on its way out the door, I would get your battery and alternator tested at AutoZone.

Yea the alternator is getting changed first....I'm just wondering if this might be causing the idle problem also.

and there tested I work at Oreilly autoparts...got paid to check em too ;)
