So I've owned this car for a few years with decent progress. However recently things have been really coming together so I figured maybe it was build thread worthy...

I owned a 95 Zenki for about a month or so until a combination of blown/cut springs from the previous owner/rain/retarded camber wear turned the car into a lightpole removal unit....car was basically toast after that, passenger rear quarter was effed bad (sorry no pics of the damage)

Luckily, I picked up a 97 kouki right after, BONE stock, only 100,000 clicks and only $4500. The owner moved here from some small town in Canada and had NO idea how bad us drifter fanboys get fleeced on S-chassis prices around here. Car was MINT and i was happy. Was was auto tho, but that was all good because I knew I'd be swapping something in eventually.

Right away I dove into the suspension. It wasn't my first choice but I got a wicked deal on some Megan streets and a full set of Megan arms so I jumped on it. At the same time I picked up an Apexi N1 Evo exhaust.

So just to give a taste of what low cars have to deal with 'round here, this happened like a goddamn week out of paint:

Passed by a cop, he pulled a U-turn so hard he almost rolled his suburban and lit me up. Gave me a nice fatherly lecture about how my car being so low was basically Auschwitz 2010. then the backup rolled up...:facepalm:

Right on the spot I got what we canucks call a "Boxy 1" or a Box one vehicle inspection, meaning they ticked the first box on this form thing....bad news

They confiscated my plates on the spot, called me a $250 tow truck, cancelled my insurance and told me to have a nice day.

It took jumping through a bunch of hoops and paying for a shady inspection but within a week I was back on the road. The only snag was that I promised the shop I'd roll like this for a while to keep the heatyness down....ugh.

2011 con't

So one day I was cruising around at 1am and everything was calm until BOOM, a huge bank, a clunk and then the worst rubber screeching sound I'd ever heard. Pulled over asap and looked at my car and couldn't figure what the hell had happened, but i was basically on the ground... I had no flashlight, was like maybe 20 mins out from home, obviously didn't wanna call a tow truck and/or the police to help and i couldn't get the scissor jack anywhere under the car. I decided to limp it home....worst drive of my life. I was like a MM off the ground, and since if I got on a main road and went over like 1omph I'd leave a HUGE smoke trail from my car sitting on the tire, I had to stick to sidestreets.....meaning schoolzones...meaning speedbumps.

What happened was the bolt holding the bottom mount of the coil over had just fucking fallen out and the coil slid off the spindle... I got free install then I bought the coils so I figured why not.....THIS IS WHY NOT.

Waited and waited and waited for an S14 sr and it was hopless...so i picked up a super clean blacktop. No matter.

I really wanted do LS1 but shit's just not feasible in western Canada...to my knowledge, noone has an LS-S-chassis. No junkyards have any laying around either. And I doubt many shops have experience with it. What we DO have, is mad Japan hook ups, so SR was an easy choice

Thanks for all the love fellas, I've just been chugging along for weeks ordering up parts for the swap. Really wished I lived in the US sometimes. most places would ship right to my door, free shipping, no tax within a week. Not up here. If I order from FRsport or enjuku for instance, I have to pay shipping to the boarder, wait an additional week sometimes to clear customs. THEN I get dinged with taxes, duties and brokerage fees :mad: Free healthcare...or saving money and time on parts...sometimes I just cant decide whats better haha.

The wheels popped up unexpectedly locally and I just fucking JUMPED on them. Advertised as 18x10 and 19x11...I already was worried about fitment. Turns out when i showed up with cash to snag them they were 10.5 and 11.5......the dude didnt even know how to read the labels...rich kids.... Now even more sure they'd never fit, I still took them. I just...I had to.

Still cant believe that fell together. Just a week before a local baller wheel importer quoted me $5200 for a set from Japan along with a ridiculous wait. So I kinda put LXZ's on the never gunna happen list.

That night I test fitted to see how much work was needed to fit these. Didnt touch height or camber, just threw them on to get a ballpark idea.

The plan is to keep stock metal at all costs but to be honest, I dont think it'll take too much work to get them to fit. I REALLY wanna tuck rim since theyre 19's in the rear...so...that might require widebody. We'll see.
For now I ordered up 225/40/18 fronts and 245/35/19 rears to try and shoehorn these bitches in. I'll keep you guys posted

Yea fitment is gonna be extreme on stock metal.... but it is possible. I haven't run 10.5's up front but I know a few people that have, definitely not for the weak at heart lol. Gonna take some camber. Gonna take some custom metal work to tuck rim in the rear too.

haha thanks, the hub is NRG short and release is NRG as well. I just disconnected the airbag light, it was way too annoying. And I haven't hooked up the horn yet...although it's pretty easy to do from what I've read.


Today was a pretty nice day and I had some time, so I did a couple little things. Mainly mounting (but not wiring) the gauges up and installing the a pillar pod. I also worked on fitting the cooling panel

The end tabs on the panel were getting lifted up by the screw that connects the corner lights to the headlights, making everything fit horribly...so I decided to cut them off.

I had never cut carbon before nor did I try to read about the best way to do so. I just grabbed my dremel and jumped in. Scary shit. the initial cuts were god awful but after some touching up and rounding the corners/edges....it came out pretty good.

she thinks it was because she gassed it too much while turning in the rain....turns out it was (probably) due to retarded camber wear on the driver side that I hadn't noticed....but dont tell her that.

I was ok with the stretch at first. but later on we noticed it wasnt holding air at all. fronts and rears fully deflated eventually.

Luckilly he had some 235/40/18's and 265/30/19's in stock so mounted those up no problem. I'm happy with the look and everything but now it's gunna be just that much harder to fit. And I blew like 800 bucks on the falkens (this is canada keep in mind, by the time tires show up they're like 50 bucks more a pop)

For now, I'm happy that I was able to make the shit fit period, however a few problems arose...firstly, I'm not getting nearly enough front camber and everything is maxed out, secondly...it's looking impossible to tuck rim because of the curvature of the inner fender....so it looks like new coils and overs are gunna be on the horizon.

Unfortunately nothing too crazy will be done motor wise until next winter. BC has super bullshit emissions laws and cars need to be tested yearly. If they don't pass they cannot be insured.

BUT...next winter they are scrapping that shit finally so the motor will be made insane when that happens.

So that day just happened to be like the only time I've ever had people sitting in the back, so for the short trip to lunch, the fender was basically sitting on the tire. A cop had passed by me and as soon as he smelt the smoke he whipped around and lit me up. once he saw the rubbage on the tire sidewall he refused to let me drive on, claiming that the car was now "drastically unsafe for public roads". He was a huge dick about it too.

Anyway....on to the Winter 2012/2013 build!

5 extra layers on the inside and a shit-ton of resin later, they seem pretty bulletproof. I hope anyway.

While I was waiting on my rear overs to arrive, I searched far and wide for a gold CS fuel rail. Problem is, even though on every website they are gold, Circuit Sports hasn't made them in gold for over a year...only blue. But just as I was about to give up, someone locally was parting his SR and BOOM, scooped one up on the cheap!

I previously had an Apexi N1 EvoII and loved it, but all my 240 buddies always ragged on me for having the quietest car, so it was time to go haha.

So now the new setup is a PBM Cobra downpipe, resonated test pipe, apexi ECV to the 4 inch blasters...and the sound is BEASTLY for an SR. Pretty sure mines the loudest one of the group now...suckers.

For your fenders boss. Get some metal. Cut them up and glass them to the insides of your fenders. That will keep them from popping apart or getting that stupid triangle from the tire in them.

That night, fenders were on. Chargespeed fitment is exactly as good as everyone says. No fuckery what so-ever...just riveted on, no trimming, no gaps, no bullshit.

Trim pulled and primed (the door gap is due to a mounting tab not being used. with the skirt on I actually like the gap, makes the skirt seem more flush to the body.

You're definitely right, there are endless mint motors of all kinds floating around. The main thing for me I think was emissions. BC specifically has bullshit emissions laws that are tied into insurance & licencing here (it's all one huge company/fucking monopoly) So basically, to keep this thing street/daily any motor setup would have to be kept pretty much stock since it has to meet KA24DE requirements. So i figured whats the point of a 2J if I have to keep it stock. SR had a little more wiggle-room for power. I ALLLMOST went RB25 but for the ease of install, price, sheer amount of parts floating around, I decided SR. Apparently they are ditching this emmissions shit 2014...so when that happens, I may have to rethink motors.

So I had the option to paint it any color in the world, which was tough for me. I was really tempted to go bright red a la Frizzle, but I really dont want to step on anyone's toes. Plus locally I'm known as "that purple s14" haha so I decided to keep it midnight purple but tweak the mix just a bit. It's always been deep midnight with purple/blue flake...but this time it's more purple/plumey with a fuck-ton more flake......like stupid flake. This time the overall spray is also a much more expensive and higher quality job. This is the last time I wanna have to spray it for a WHILE...so I wanted lots of durability and lots of clear.

Hats off to Steven Thompson/OZ Designs/Drift Union for fucking nailing my vision yet again. For the second time, I just told him what I was thinking, and trusted him to do his thing. The paint is ALWAYS the first thing people comment on at shows and shit and I owe it all to Steve.

Maximum rim tuck will be achieved...I'm ordering a set of PBM coils just to obtain necessary lowness. Megan's wont cut it.

What did you decide to use for coilovers? I just changed mine from my old topline aragostas to Fortune 500s with 11/9k springs. So far, they've been tits and pretty forgiving considering how shitty the roads are out here in VA.

That's a great place to place that. I wouldn't have though about that at all.

Oh and blast pipes usually run the gasses through one side more then the other since they are a bit uneven...

Fender is flush mounted. I feel like chargespeeds would be hard to bow out because they hug every grove on the rear quarter.

Soooooo not too much to update with right now. Ive been busy with work blah blah.

I miss driving this thing so goddamn much I've been pushing to sort out all the issues and get it back together!

First up is a nasty interior leak that's been bugging me for a while, and living in the rainiest friggin place on earth, I figured it was time to sort it out.

Interior out, now time to see where it's coming in from. I tossed the moldy carpet and will replace with a new black one, which should help finish off the interior nicely.

I also got my new front tires in. 235/35/18 vs the old 235/40/18 monster truck tires.

It's actually alot more extreme than I thought it would be. The tire isnt really seated on the rim, but hold up fine. Should help me achieve desired lowness and clearance.

^ check your harness plug inside the wheel well. I tore up mine pretty bad and had water leak from there everytime i drive my car in the rain. After 30min drive in hard rain i had a puddle of water inside my car. Took me a while to find it.

^^^Yeah after some testing i think this is whats happening...my tire was too tall and kept knocking it out of place. Im gunna just silicone the shit out of the whole thing and hopefully it will stop!

In other news...my coils are being built right now. I decided in the end to go with Fortune 500's with 12k/10k SWIFT springs and roller bearings. I was originally going to go with the 510's but couldnt really justify the 4-500 dollar price difference for a street setup. I'd rather put the money towards a diff or an electronic boost controller.

In the meantime I still had to sort out my turn signals (yet to be done) and get my front and rear windshield trim in, as well as pass my goddamn "Aircare" emissions test so that I can renew my insurance for another year.

I rolled to a buddy's shop to mount up a good cat and tune my shit for max environmental friendliness...
