ive heard that your not supposed to drive the car for 3 months if its cold because the paint will crack.
ive also heard 2 weeks and u can't get it dirty because it will scratch very easily that early after the paint job.
also ive heard once the paint is dry your good to go in the cold or sun so what is true and what is false? :tweak:

How about you call a body shop and ask them.

Ok, have to throw my (2) cents in the pot. Your cars paint will flash before they hand the keys over to you. You can drive your car however, and whenever you want after that. Isocyanides in the paint will evaporate from the outside in. Think of it as an M&M for the first (90) days hard and crunchy on the outside still a little soft on the inside. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT wash your car for (90) days. It will take this long for the paint to fully cure. If you wash it any sooner you risk paint problems down the road.

Rumors rumors... Sure it takes time for paint to cure, but you can wash the car a week after the paint job. The only guideline I've ever been truthfully told by the pros is not to wax the car for 3 months.

Ok, the guy that painted my car told me not to use soap or wax on it for thirty days. When the car got dirty, I simply sprayed it off with the hose without using detergent.

Obviously it depends on the paint used, and the shop methods since we all have different opinions....

i was also just told not to wax for 30-90 days but thats about it. If you wanna be safe just dont drive your car for a year and make sure you dont even look at it because it can mess up the clear coat...........lol......... im juss messin

When my car was painted, I was driving the very day after it was done, I was able to wash it when it got dirty (the next week) and the only limit the shop that did it placed on me was to POLISH the car after 30 days, and not to wax for at least 90...

Water is okay on most new paint since, think about it, if you're driving your car it's gonna get wet anyway from rain/puddles/etc... You usually have to wait a month or so before you wax or polish new paint because the wax would help to seal in any evaporating chemicals or moisture from the new paint as it dries and could keep it from curing properly.

From building street rods it is my experience it is best not to wet sand, wax or buff a car for 30 days. Keep it clean just dont sweat the wax or the scrubing. Hose it off and if something wont come off with the hose wipe it off carefully. After the 30 days you can wet sand it and polish it or wax it till your hearts content (if needed). Generally they wash the car at the body shop before you ever pick it. Just my .02
