What kind of kickers and in what price range?

Why do people refer to subs by their size, it's a meaningless statistic.

blaupunkt all the way
i have a pa2200 i think
200w x 2
if its more than a 200 watt sub you might go with another brand or two of those
theyre 500 watts x 1 channel i think
i got mine for about 300 i think and you can mount them anywhere because they stay really cool

Kicker and Rockford Fosgate make good amps, specifically for woofers. Clarion also makes good amps, IMO.

I've got an old used Phoenix Gold amp for my two old pioneer 10's, and I'm very satisfied.

Amps aren't like speakers, just find a well known brand at a good price that puts out the watts that fit you're subs. I'm not saying anything is as good as the next brand, but if you can get a good deal on an amp and put some more cash into the subs, you will be happy with the end result.

i have a kicker amp for sale, but it's only 25 x 2, real good power though, my friend had it bridged on a 250 rms JL 12w3 and it pounded real good....

if you want a bigger kicker amp, at the pawn shop where i work we have a reall good ix404 kicker amp, 40 x 4 and again real good power...

we been shipping to the state for ebay stuff so if you want either let me know... both are kicker impulse last years model ix252 and ix404, we're asking only 299.95 canadian for the 40 x 4, so i think thats only like 2 bills US.

I've been looking at amps lately, and the best on the market by FAR is JL Audio's new amps. There is nothing out there for the money that I have found that sound better, or make as much power as the new JL amps. I know most of the people who work at the car/home audio places here in town, and I went to Ovation to check out the JL amps...Well, their smallest amp 250/1 was POUNDING 3 15" W-1's with no problem. But that amp was also used to power one L7 10" Solobaric, then moved onto 2 8" W-3's...They're so versatile it's unbelievable. Do yourself a favor and go demo a new JL amp at your local home/car audio store...You won't believe your ears!!!!

go by peak power and you may blow your subs in a day,

i like to stay around the middle of the rms range, gets good sound and not to hard on the subs,

that 40 x 4 amp i mentioned would be great i think

jl amps for subs are great. also look at Precision Power. for 2 10s or 12's you'll need around 100-200watts/speaker to reach the speaker's full potential.

RF, JL's, etc are well known but there are other hi quality amps out there. For example the JBL power valve 600.1 is an awesome class D amp, also i know a place online that is selling some awesome Ultimate sounds digitalis amp 1200x1 RMS watt amp for $299.00
remember dont go to a shop and let the sales people dupe you into JL this Kicker that, they are selling what they just have...there are so many good brands out there take your time and research and you can find gems. The best place online is here check them out ask for scott and he'll take care of you...

For those two subs, you'd probably want a class D amp putting out about 300 watts or so. Class D works well for this aplication because they are usually 2ohm stable, and you can bridge the two subs into a 2ohm load. The JL 250/1 is a good example of such an amp. If you want to save money, the JBL BP-300.1 go for real cheap on ebay.

don't i need 2 channel amp for 2 subs??

if i'm wrong, sorry for stupidity

DuffMan

No, you run them in parallel. Most 2 channel amps are made to put out the most power at 2 ohms, so your 4 ohms speaker would not receive the rated power of the amp.

01-14-2002, 03:58 AM
i'd go with Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, and Orion...the only ones i like...i have an Orion that's pretty old now maybe three years old..but that shit HAULS ASS!!!!...i have it hooked up to two punch power DVC and #### that shit kick the subs really bad...soo much freakin air that is being pushed...i don't know the power figure on it because i bought it off the streets a while ago..but all i know is it's two channel and i don't even want to know what it's gonna do to my subs if i bridge the amp..if u kickin subs then you need a two channel or just a single channel amp....wouldn't recommend a four channel...

i have a big 45 x 4 rms coustic amp and i bridged it twice and ran it into each voice coil of my JL 12W3, it sounds great...

but i wonder... how much better would it sound at 2 ohms??? how exactly do you run your amp at 2 ohms???

I've got a JBL power series class D amp, and I love it.

I'm only using a 100-watt bridged BOSS amp and that powers my 12" Polk db sub. It sounds pretty nice. I don't need all that much power to get the results I want anyway. Just as long as I get the "boom, boom" sound and the rest of my stereo sounds clean, I'm happy. =)

Wow, a lot of you know a lot about cars but don't seem to know jack about stereos. First off you're better off having more power than not enough. It's called "headroom" Amps have gains on them. You should use a bigger amp and have the gains turned down instead of a small amp with the gains cranked up. This causes distortion. Distortion is more the cause of blown subs than power. I had a pair of compVR's and I ran 500 watts per sub for quite long periods of time and didn't blow them. I then hooked 3500 to the pair and froze the cones in 3 seconds but that was just for shits and giggles. I got new ones about 3 weeks later. I also hooked that amp to my DD and knocked all the lights off the ceiling in my shop. If you all want to be impressed check out their site. www.DDaudio.com Stay clear of the clarions that someone mentioned, they are overpriced and over rated. They don't put out the power they claim. You can either use a 2 channel amp and bridge it or a mono block (1 channel) Your best bet is a small mono block. Some good small mono blocks are made by Memphis, DEI, MTX, and JBL. If you look on ebay there is a guy selling the JBL power valves cheap. The only drawback to this particular amp is it has no built in x-over. Depending on what kind of cd player you have or if you have an equalizer it may have a built in x-over and you won't need an additional one. Some other ones you may want to look at are the Lanzar 1200D and the Boss 3000D. They are the same internals because they are made under the same parent company. You get the lanzar for around $249 and the boss for around $259. The boss has I think a 5 year warranty. Check www.nexxon.com They sell the boss in the specials section cheap. Everything from nexxon carries warranty and all prices are shipped. I've bought dozens of things from here and all with good results, I highly recommend them.

BTW, W3's can be dual 2 or dual 4 ohm. The only oddball is the W6 series which are dual 6 ohm.

idunit is on the money...i'm running a RF Fosgate 800 watt 2 channel amp wired @ 2 ohms each to my dual 12inch Ultimate Sound Cupric series subs. The gain is only @ 30% but #### these subs can hit tight in my sealed box dual .88cb3

check out this special on this amp! The DD1-1200 is a mono amplifier that delivers 1.2 Kilowatts into a 1W load. The DT2-800 is a 2 channel full range amplifier that delivers more than 800 Watts into a bridged 4W load, or 2 X 400 Watts into 2W loads. With overall efficiencies of 80% or more, and fully regulated power supplies, these digital power plants really deliver. Unlike conventional "High Current" amplifiers that waste as much power heating up your trunk as they deliver to your speakers, the Digitalis Amplifiers keep their cool and put the power to work where it does the most good- Moving those voice coils!
