Need a little help. I bought a S13 hatchback a couple of weeks ago with the sohc engine. This is my third s13, but this is the first one with the KA engine. The last two that I had were both back in Japan(one with a CA and the other with an SR). I've heard of storied about the s13's here in the States not being fast at all I've noticed that they still have some good lowend torque. Whats the typical mods that are done here in the states for the sohc engine because I was thinking about a swap but I don't have the cash for it. I would rather take the money for the swap and upgrade the suspension and many other things that I need for the car. Also, I noticed the other day when I was looking under the car that I didn't have the VLSD because it had the R180 diff case that comes in the silvia q's in Japan. Whats with that? In Japan all hatchback s13 have viscuous LSD's in them. Did I get shafted for a diff that I was suppose to have?? I'm not complaining too much because I got the car for $2000. Anyway, can you guys tell me the what kind of mods I can do on the SOHC engine so I don't look like too much of an idiot out on the road.

i've heard no S13's come with limited slip in the US, but they have them standard along with hicas in canada. i'd save for a turbo kit. keyword is save

Intake, exhaust, spark. Start with the basics, work your way up.

my advice........start with the suspension, 600 bucks for springs and shocks makes a huge difference in handling whereas 600 bucks for an exhaust an intake will give you about a 7% power increase (10hp) resulting in minimal acceleration gains, but it does sound nice
#### YEAH.........my 100th post
Another vote for suspension, I think it would be more of an improvement than intake and exhaust for the money. Then just save up for the swap or a turbo or super charge kit...bolt-on's aren't really gona make you beat someone you couldn't beat without them.

not all that much you can do other than intake/headers/exhaust, not sure if you can even get headers for the SOHC. my advice is use some hookup you have from japan to get an SR on the cheap cheap and have it shipped over and installed
and yeah no VLSD for US s13. go to http://www.pdm-racing.com they have alot of good suspension parts (sway bars, bushings, tie bars), if you want to get some parts like they have back home go check out http://www.shinkairacing.com you can get stuff like do-luck RXB's from them, and TEIN suspension that is usually harder to get in the states. another site that has alot of good stuff at reasonable prices it http://www.rollhard.com
welcome to the states, how do you like it and where do you live at? or were you born here and just returning after a stint in japan?

I say go with all motor work on the SOHC. You can get headers on that motor too. Id go with the basic bolt ons and then start working on the actual internals. Nismo cam, JWT camgear with I/H/E make a HUGE difference on the KA24E. Exhaust usually will make the biggest difference of the bolt ons considering how small the stock one is and pretty much every tuner magazine has the dyno print outs to prove it. As far as the suspension, as you've probably noticed the 240 fastback does have a "bit" of wheel gap which a good set of springs should take care of coupled with a new set of shocks. Getting the body a little more rigid should also be a priority i.e. strut bars front and back for starters.
