View Full Version : question about tires, brakes, locking up, kinda all in one

i just upgraded my front brakes to z32 30mm w/ fr sport drilled slotted rotors and hawk hps + pads... lots of braking in front. i have 225 series tires up front... little tires...

when i took the car out to bed the new brakes, i could hardly touch the pedal without the brakes locking up. even just the slightest tap on the brakes would completely lock them up. so here's my questions:

1) if I put a 17/16th BMC will that help put more brake bias to the back and maybe ease up on the brakes locking up?

2) then, if I put bigger (Altima) slotted drilled rotors on the back with the same HPS + pads will that also help distribute braking more and help prevent lock up?

3) lastly, if I put some bigger and better tires all the way around, will that also help quite a bit? I was planning on buying some Dunlop Star Specs... 245/40/17 (front) and 255/35/18 (rear). or should I try 255 all the way around?

the car is solely a weekend warrior track day car

thanks in advance!

I have my first track day in 13 days and trying to be ready for it.

FWIW: I already have the z31 brackets, rear rotors and pads, just haven't had a chance to pop em on yet. and I've already ordered a 17/16 BMC. I'm just hoping a combination of tires, bmc and better rear brakes will fix the lock up issue.

How is he tread on your tires? The brakes are too powerfull for your tires

Switching to the 17/16 BMC alone will solve most of the locking up issues.

How so? I always figured that was going to make it worse

here it mentions the rears not locking up, but its the fronts that are locking up. but I'm guessing its better proportioned either way.
