aircare / smog fail

i went to aircare this morning and failed (canada), my 240 has 159,000 kms on it don't think the cat has ever been replaced or anything else. i dont believe that just the catalytic converter could make me fail that badly though? anybody know whats wrong

have you checked and clean the egr and the pipe that goes to manifold?

i do know that if NOx is high then backing off timing will lower that but will raise ur HC...just saying.

Make sure you have heat shields on the exhaust manifold and the midpipe going to the catalytic converter. The mid pipe heat sheilds have a fiberglass insulation in between. Trust me, I have actual test results that show the importance of the heat shields.
