if i get a motorset ordered from a company online or something.....should i get the install professionally or is it easy enough to do it if you have the right tools.....bcause i can use my cousins garage/shop with a cherry picker and all....is the install difficult at all?
Do it yourself :) unless its your only car...

It depends if you are mechanically adept. If not i can do the swap in under a day so give me call if you need some help.

Do it yourself man, it'll give you a good learning experience. Good luck.

its not that hard...esp. if your mechanically inclined. ive seen someone do a swap and after seeing it done(keep in mind that im not mechanically inclined), I thought the wiring was the only hard part. maybe you can do everything up until the wiring and then leave that to a shop. unless your confident.

I agree, do it yourself if you feel up to the task. It's good to know your car inside and out and doing the swap yourself will definantly help if you need to troubleshoot later on. Plus there's nothing like building a car up with your own two hand:p
My advice would be to take your time, research everything thoroughly so before you even start the swap you feel like you already know how to do it. With the wiring I always recommend someone doing their first swap to get a piece of paper and a pen out and make your own personal wiring diagram so it sort of ingranes the process in your head.
And don't be afraid to ask questions. There's tons of people on here that can do the swap in their sleep and have come across any eventuality you can think of.

one more questoin for all....is it necessary to get a big front mount intercooler if im gnna be runnin more boost or is that just for a bigger turbo?
the list of parts i want to gather before i put the swap in are as follows:
downpipe
boost controller
turbo timer
BOV
intake
do i need a new clutch kit or fuel management or can that wait till after the swap?

Depending on how long it was sitting and where it came from, it is recommended that you change some minor internals. I believe it's the rockers???? I don't exactly remember so don't quote me on this.....do some research.
As far as the install it's an easy two man job, especially if you have an uncut wire harness, upgrade ur motor mount. Have fun and enjoy.

if you want a nice no worries motor... get yourself new rod bearings, rocker stopper kit, headgasket, waterpump, thermostat, belts, timing chain, and complete engine gasket set. Of course I would have an engine builder do that part for you, but then you will not have to worry about having it break on you. Do it right, DO IT ONCE! btw, do you know how old the motor is, and how long it's been sitting around?

....aaaahhh, maybe it was bearings....hmmmmm. It's been about 5 yrs since I help a friend w/ his sr20. But you just check for metal shaving and condition of oil before you start her up and fudge it up even more......

new fuel pump isnt required as long as you stay with stock boost

A fuel pump and a clutch would be an excellent starting point, for him to get ready to mod the car.
alright i got sum problems with my motor, sr came in last week and today after school i took a good look at everything and i noticed the fuel rail is bent up a little bit and one of the injectors is stickin out so therefor might not be getting fuel so i dont no if thats a big problem if thats the case, um the waterpump doesnt look to bad but might wana change it anyways the throttle body isnt turning hardly and if u push inside its rock hard not suppost to be then im not sure might be the O2 censor but looks worn out n burnt to be honest now i dont no but looks like a beaten on motor and not sure what i should do. :wiggle:

Change out your fuel rail. Your O2 sensor could be dead and always looks burnt. Remember that the engine has been sitting for a long time and before that probably had the shit kicked out of it why do you think it's sitting in the junkyard anyways. Just clean everything before you stuff it back in a chassis.
Aright thats a start, but i was also thinking cuz im tight with the guy from the company i bought it from and if worse comes to worse ill give them back the motor and get a front clip so the motors in there nothings cut nothings touched so maybe that might be a better idea

Every front clip i have ever gotten has had some corrosion on the butterfly inside the throttle body. Thats why its hard to turn. Dont worry about your 02 sensor until you start the car and see if it has problems.
Also it is a good idea to remove the intake manifold and clean the inside of it. That way you can remove all the crap that has been in there.
Corosion, dirt, oil, rats nest, etc.
Good luck with your swap.
For the intake manifold and throttle body gasket contact heavythrottle.com
Or another reputable sr store.

Dont worry about your 02 sensor until you start the car and see if it has problems.
we always replace 02s on clips that are swapping into street cars regardless often the motors sit for a long time and somtime on their side oil and water soak into some of the sensors and manifold depending, its always good to swap out old crap and set up stuff right the first time. Now if you dont need your 02 sensor or care or if milage is not a big deal to you and runing closed loop map all the time isnt an issue then yeah who cares, but their isnt really any way to see if an 02 is bad after you first start the car other than checking for codes if the ecu has a diagnostic light or checking your gas milage under part throttle.
Alright thanks for that info, now i checked it out and the O2 isnt the problem its something else, me n my dad looked at it and its something near the egr i have no clue but thats wats coroded and dented, also far as the bent fuel rail goes, could it be bent back down? Also is it a good idea to replace the alternator and water pump cuz to be honest looks like the motor was definately beat to shit.
