View Full Version : Head lights won't go down
like the title says, my flip ups wont go down. They are stuck in the up position all the time. I dont think its the motor because when i manually adjust the headlights they automatically go down then flip back up. I think its the fuse, but im not exactly sure where the fuse is for it. I think its in the passanger side fuse box in the engine bay but im not quite sure. i tihnk it is because it says left and right headlight motor i tihnk, dont remember. o and this just happened out of no where
what happened was, a few days ago i go driving at night. Then i get into the garage and turn the head lights off. then i go and press the headlight button. It started to act funny because it wouldn't go all the way down. so i keep on pressing the dam thing and it keeps going up and down. then finally it wouldn't go down anymore.
so if anyone knows what is wrong please help!

You could have blown a fuse. Try replacing the 5A fuse labeled Head Lamp Cont, below the steering column.

im gonna try that. Is that the fuse that controls the motor?

yes, when I do the manual sleepy eyes, I pull the that 5A fuse out after I set the headlamps to my perfered setting(I always keep a tape measurer in my car!) When that fuse is out, the headlamps will pop up when you flip the brights, and will stay up until you put the fuse back in...
ok fuse wasnt it, i checked it and it was ok, then i bought another fuse just incase and still it the button didnt work

Hmm, I was just looking through my manual and saw the left/right headlight, pretty sure its where you said, passenger side in the engine bay...Their should be 8 fuses, left/right in a row by themselves. Try replacing those, if it doesn't work, try checking the headlamp motor.
1.) Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.) Disconnect the headlamp motor connector.
3.) Use and ohmmeter to check for continuity in headlamp motor circuit while rotating motor with manual knob.

i have the same problem
i checked all my relays in engine bay and even tried a new switch in dash
nothing has worked for me soo far.
when manually turned down and i turn on the headlights or hit the button they go up but never down.
:(
has anyone figured out this problem? my lights has been up for more than 2 weeks i think1

not a fuse guys.. fuse would mean that the headlamp wont EVER move (up or down).
its your switch.. it sounds like its pretty much broken.

hmm...ill try that. by switch you think its the actual button? the wires connected onto the button?

Same problem on a friends car, relays and fuses were good and I tried diffrent buttons including my own which works 100%. Still no go. Someone did mention to me that a ground might be bad. Given the age of these cars and weather taking a toll on exposed grounds, you might want to check the headlight motor grounds.

i have the same problem on my car. i always thought something was freezing because it only happened after i drove in really cold weather with the lights up ,but its not the case as they go up and down at random times. My motors are fine so if you have the same problem i do i hope you find out whats worng because i cant figure it out. and im lazy

try to disconnect the head lamp motor connection then reconnect it. maybe even check to see how clean the connections are while they are off. this fixed mine for some time before.
