alright everybody so to begin i have an 89 hatch that was automatic, ordered a redtop but received a 98 type x black top. the motor is installed along with transmission, driveshaft, downpipe. i am hung up on the wiring. i am not sure if i am correct but i currently have the ka automatic starter/alternator harness on the sr with no transmission harness. i was going to reqire the gray and brown plug near the battery tray but barely any of the colors match up per the instructions from frsport. i have searched for an answer for days a lot of wich was on zilvia specifically. i am looking for a straightforward answer as to which wires need to be paired up in order to get this thing to run. any and all information would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Wiring specialties is if course an option. I am just hopeful to get it running right away to make some events as opposed to waiting to be able to order a harness. Any info at all would be great. Im sure somebody has done this swap before.

You sure you didn't get a '93-'95 blacktop SR? Never heard of a company sending you a better engine than what you ordered.

What would be the easiest way to confirm besides the fact it came with a j4 ecu?

Should also mention it does have the vertical cooling fins on the front of the head.

Keep searching. I did this swap 5 years ago. Google it. There are swap guides out there. Try Jim wolf. It's only a couple of wires that are diffrent. Learn the j4 pinout. You can do it.

Sure seems like a blacktop. Now just search around more and you should find what you need. Ive came across that info a few times. Shouldnt be hard.

I didn't think it would be anything too complicated. Just seems almost that the wiring on the chassis isn't even right. Didn't know if sohc was different from DOHC. So I can use a wiring diagram for the chassis and a j4 pinout to determine which wires need to be connected for the plugs to be correct?

You just need to make sure that you have a J4 harness and not a 62/E5 harness, otherwise you will have to re-pin it accordingly.

That is the same link I was using originally to try and get it wired. Problem is that the wire colors are different than what is ob the harness and chassis. Not all are different, just some.

Got it all sorted and she fired right up. Only difference was thin black/red wire for the fuel pump. All else was spot on per the frsport tutorial. Thanks for the encouragement fellas.

It's been said a million times but Wiring Specialties or Chase Bays.
